Afternoon Outlook: Swell from Elida creeps up with less NW windswell and overall less peaky than yesterday. Waist-stomach-chest high zone surf at the better spots, up to head high+ at standouts as winds are light+ WSW. Cleaner evening window as onshores ease and with more Elida swell moving in for a little more surf in the chest-shoulder-head high+ range, largest late.

If you aren’t aware of what existed before it, Doheny is an ideal beginner’s wave. Swells slip past the swell-choking jetty, break softly over a bed of cobblestones and form into slow shoulders. A few hundred yards southeast, by the San Juan Creek, there’s a sandbar and reef that break better on stronger swells.
