Today

Knee-thigh high surf, waist-high+ for better breaks. Soft, low quality shape this afternoon.

PM Outlook: Little mix of SW/SSW swells for knee-thigh high waves, pushing waist-stomach high for standouts north of Hermosa.

A little bit of NW energy in the mix, but the onshore wind makes for mushy, gutless waves without any real shape to them. Not expecting much of a cleanup until close to dark, and even that probably won't boost quality too much.

Not all south swells are created equal. From Bombing Teahupo'o to Massive Wedge, watch the science behind the South Pacific's most remarkable run in decades: https://bit.ly/4xS68hZ

Manhattan Beach Pier Surf Guide

The best bets for good surf are mixed, combo swells and hope for defined sandbars. All spots south of Manhattan are increasingly shadowed from south/summer swell and rely primarily on southwest, west, and northwest swells. Marine Street is usually the best south swell spot in Manhattan. The beachbreaks are usually walled with some better-shaped waves near the Manhattan Pier.
