Today

Winding down but still pretty fun, especially on the AM tide push. A little mid-AM crumble.

Dawn to 10am: SSW swell is down a notch from late Thu, in the waist occ. chest high range for average zones. Better breaks along the west Newport-HB Pier stretch are shoulder-head high with some overhead waves in the mix. Shape still favors structured spots, but there should be a few more sections at the beachbreaks as the swell period drops. Early window looks mostly clean, with a chance for some SE wind crumble mid-AM.

Afternoon Outlook: Lumpy afternoon conditions as W onshores pick up.

River Jetties Surf Guide

Santa Ana River Jetties is the most consistent spot in Newport. It is, however, extremely varied in shape and depends on the contour of the sandbars. Lefts tend to be fast and predominant during S swells and can turn hollow on a light offshore wind. Westerly winds easily blow out the spot. In winter, the break is far peakier. Steep peaks are found on the right tide, but if you don't surf the spot regularly, the chances of a great day are slim. Read more
