Porthmeor:
Porthmeor is a picturesque and typically Cornish beachbreak. Overlooked by the Tate Gallery, the stretch of golden sand is hemmed in by rocky headlands and its northwesterly orientation adds a degree of shelter when big southwesterlies are rolling through. In a decent swell the crystal clear waters can produce a variety of waves from fun walls to thumping barrels, with all variety of surfers there to enjoy the feast – from shortboarders to kneeboarders, from wave skis to Mals. Summer sees large crowds at Porthmeor, drawn by the buzz of the town and the vibrant surf scene, but as autumn and winter come around, numbers dwindle to a more manageable size and the local crew breathes a sigh of relief.
