Alaia Bay
Book nowNestled high up in the picturesque, snowcapped splendor of the Swiss Alps mountain range, Alaïa Bay is truly a wave pool in a location unlike any other. With a hotel, ski lodge, great restaurant, skate park and backpackers hostel all in the same joint, you can actually surf, skate and snowboard in the same day. Pretty unique.
A slightly smaller version than most Wavegardens on the globe, Alaïa Bay’s Wavegarden Cove tech shoots off 500+ waves in an hour with settings for: Beginner, Waikiki, Malibu, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert, Pro, and Beast. The wave itself is a fun 3-6 foot (30-60 yrd long) right or left that gets faster, bowlier and hollower as the settings for skill level increase. On the Beast setting, for example, slabby tubes form and for private expert sessions you can get an air section.
You can rent anything you need at Alaïa Bay as far as boards and equipment go, and yes, while the pool is heated, it is the Alps, so wetsuits are necessary. There are also surf instructors, a surf school and guides for private and public sessions.
Pricing: Hourly Free Surf sessions: $100-$150+ depending on the month/peak season. There are definitely group packages available and discounts through their Alpine Surf Club membership. And, yes, you can book and stay on the property in one of their many lodging options.
