Venice Beach:
There are a couple of jetties around Venice but closeouts are still the rule. Works best when there are holes in the sand bars or during a crossed-up swell. On a long period SSW swell the offshore Santa Monica Canyon refracts a lot of extra swell toward Venice. Santa Monica’s Bay Street is one of the better surf spots in the north end of the South Bay–primarily because it has the best parking.
