Until the late '60s the small community at Paul do Mar was virtually inaccessible, except by boat. The red tiled roofs and white-washed walls of this picturesque village are sandwiched along a narrow strip of land, between the deep blue ocean and the sheer, verdant cliffs. It is the home of a high-quality right-hander, one that springs to life in big northwest swells, producing heavy, crystalline barrels pitching over a shallow rocky point.
