I live in the northeast and want to continue to surf year-round. The H20 temp is around 32F and the air temp is in the 20's. Any tricks on staying somewhat warm?

Maine photographer and surfer Jim Ready responds:
"There's a variety of methods to stay warm through a New England winter. The best advice is to buy a 6/4/3 -- and maybe a van to change in [laughs]. Some guys, if they're putting on wet rubber, will bring a cooler with hot water and they'll rinse the suit off in the cooler before putting it on. A lot of times I'll just put the suit on at home and then drive down -- you know, put the suit on with the booties, pull it up halfway, throw a sweatshirt on and you're fine -- but only if you know it's going to be good. And I live super close to the beach.
Then, there's getting out. If the air's not too cold you can just change outside of the car, just a lot faster. If not, make sure you have a towel ready and start the car up as soon as possible. (Sometimes if you're not out long, you can get lucky and the car will still be warm.) Then you change inside the car -- that's when the van comes in handy. Some guys will also have the hot water in the cooler to put your hands in, cause if you don't have good gloves, you're hands turn into ice claws and it's tough getting out of your suit.
But overall, the way to go is to keep up with the wetsuit equipment. Then just remember to crank the heat, and change inside the car. And then some guys have a different way of staying warm all winter -- they just don't surf. They sit in the car and watch."
