I hope dane quits the tour. it sucks. I dont even like watching most of these guys surf heats cuase there so mechanical. the only guys who are doing different shit are dane and jordy. I think they should start a different tour with guys like dane, jordy, jamie o, and other amazing free surfers. competition is so boring

Becoming an internet surfer is really lame but I am hooked. Its the best thing that has happened to the sport. Marlon and Tiago really did a great job commentating the contest. It would be great to hear some of the other 45 do the same. Its just to bad the South Africa event starts at 11 pm in so cal(can't we do something about this (string up some lights and do it at night in infrared.) The power rankings seem to piss a lot of people off. The comments are more entertaining.Webcasts rule!

ya know, i've never actually read these power rankings before and for the most part it was a fine way to burn 15 minutes while waiting for the evening glass off. i gotta tell ya though, that dude jason borte is complete tool. this segment would be a lot better leaving it to cats who know what the hell they are talking about. its obvious that ian and matt are pro surfer caliber while this other writer is no different than any other monday morning quarterback. oh, gotta go, wind just died.

The wct is kind of a hoakx at times it caters to coorparate mind games and sell un necessary materials to rick poserd. God bless this utopia

ah, the old "i surfed with so-and-so in the blah blah junior circuit" chestnut. worst type of claim in surfing. was merely making an observation about a commenter's hasty "ignorant" label--didn't mean to threaten anyone's security. as for ian, he rips. but he's also a lot of bombast. just check his cringe-inducing blowhardness from "bustin down the door." and i'm no friend of borte, but he can be funny--humor often contains insight. we need both, but some evidently understand neither.

To Jon who ragged on Borte: If his name was Lewis Samuels, would you then appreciate his "attitude"?? Samuels was far more abrasive and risky in his commentary but we all loved it. Borte comes in and does a fine job, but is hypocritically ragged on?? Btw, Borte has a richer history with the surf Ind. than you realize. This PR was pretty accurate. .. and they do need at least a tiny bit of 'tude infused in them. Congrats Kelly, and that was cool of u blowin up "Mineirinho" on the stage!

David... so a friend of your witnessed Marlon Lipke surfing in the standing wave in Munich!! awesome... I surfed with him in the Portuguese junior champs since he was 12 years old. he surfed the standing wave like 3 times, compared to 17 years of surfing in Portugal. Where do you think he learned?! Know what your talking about!!!

It's just like a Borte fan (or friend) to bash Ian Cairns. Borte has biases, makes them known to everyone, and plays it off as "perspective." Who's perspective? The only one I can see is that of a jealous surfer who could never get waves at Trestles. Or is it a surf writer's perspective? Someone who shouldn't express opinion at all. I think the perspective of an ASP founder/ former champ, and the perspective of the former watchdog and confidant of recent world champions are far better.

I think is a shame to describe Brazo's waves like that U have no idea of what is going on arround that place i've been to Rio twice and surfed a shack outside some big rocks that looked more like an aussie slab huge potencial one thing is that beachbreak where the contest was held on other thing are the "not so" secrets please don't call it all "not really mattering much". mahalos

Matthew, Scripted like pro wrestling, I said the same thing.

Good rankings....seriously. Your top 10 matched mine except for a flip between Taj and Mick....and I'm a legend... peeej19@ufl.edu

I agree with mathew, the future of surfing continues to be hindered by the asp and the 4 companies who put on all the contests. Surfing is still so far ahead of their format and criteria, if they are not careful the mainstream energy of Dane and Jordy will create a new and proper tour. The asp is going backwards with their format change, and it is not a smart decision.

lipke actually surfs the standing wave in munich. friend of mine witnessed it. he's german, after all. so who's the ignorant one? and, borte's comments, beneath the sarcasm, actually give us punters a good perspective--closest thing to lewis samuels, who provided insight coded with humor. ian's boring.
Felix 07/08/2009 11:45 AM
I think th epower rankin look's good and this event in Brazil always have good waves more than 4 or 5 feet always off shore, but some event's like trestles never goes up than 1 or 3 feet in max, so why keep the usa event there? I think the Lane can be better. peace
