"Going Aboriginal" means going native. Man, people are either over sensitive or just do not think things through. It in no way equates to the "N" word in America. It would be like saying he went North American Indian, although there's probably something that rolls off the tongue better. Wait , I know it's "NATIVE". Meaning to become a savage and tear it apart. Nothing racial. And it's no surprise that the two people whining over Adriano's critics are named Felipe and Rafael.

"unfortunately for sports fans"???? Are you kidding me? We love to see great performances and that was exactly what Adriano did. A top surfer shows your skills no matter how the waves are.

ADRIANO ROCKS

Borte, questionable result is correct. Extremely poor judging of his semi in Spain. Adriano picked off slighly bigger waves and did standard surfing that any grom can do. Slaters waves were not as big but he ripped the balls out of them pushing his turns with speed and style that should have sent Adriano packing. I've noticed this judging trend too much recently. ASP, stop rewarding the biggest waves and start looking at the surfing again. B.S. on the ASP judges. Shame on you.

Adriano is a great surfer but on the same moves and performance Kelly's style is miles ahead. He should have won the semi. Unlickily style does not seem to count anymore.

It´s amazing the prejudice against people like Adriano in most of the american and aussie media. The editor tried to reply in the comments, but it wasn´t enough at all... If is not Kelly or CJ, the sports fans will be sad??? C´mon, editor, do not let this historical prejudice afect Surfline readers... And give some value to surfers that are not your "media darlings" outside USA and Australia.

Ian, you are doing an awesome job writting your rankings by using your knowledge on surf and competition without bias. This is a very professional approach, which many of your colleagues in the specialized media fail to use. When they do so they fail to recognize that they might be offending some (at least) individuals better known as viewers or customers. It would be great for the surfing world if you could also coach reporters and editors.

"Davo was down two waves and clearly out of it and then discovering the animal inside to go totally aboriginal on a couple of lefts..." This sort of comment has no place on a site like Surfline. While it's an Aussie turn of phrase, it does expliclty equate aboriginals with animals. For the Americans, how would you feel if this comment read "Davo was down two waves and clearly out of it and then discovering the animal inside to go totally Ni***r on a couple of lefts"? Tasteless.

unfortunately for the sports fans??? what this guy is talking about?? only when kelly or mick or parkos win it is great contest ???
editor reply:
What I meant was, that Kelly [or CJ] didn't make it a tighter title race. Tighter title race = more interesting for sport's fans.

Pipe would also be fickle if it was to be run in September rather than December. Mundaka needs a good swell. Run the event in November to increase chances of swell,Sept/Nov is just a lottery, by the way this Wed/Thurs/Fri (less than one week after the event) will be on fire, 8-10ft offshore, see forecast.

Ian, regarding Adriano, you forgot to mention he is a very mellow, low-key guy. This may come as a surprise for those annoyed with him claiming 1' airs, but when he's on land, he flies way under the radar. Maybe it's because people don't recognize him in the US. I got his autograph during the US Open in the back streets of HB, and I was really, really impressed with how well he speaks English and how quiet/polite he was. This is a guy who the pop psyche's call "centered".
