HURLEY PRO TRESTLES: PREVIEW
After two-month break, world's best surfers descend on SoCal's summertime skatepark
Finding a stretch of coast with no beachfront houses is unusual in California and having a surf spot in a State Park AND backed up by a wetland preserve is a really refreshing and relaxing experience for any surfer. However, when you have 30 million people in California and a LOT of them surf, one of the best waves in the state, Lower Trestles, is certain to be inundated with surfers -- and so it is for 350 days of the year. The crowd is merciless on an average swell and nuclear on a big southern hemi. The only time you can see Lowers without a mob is during the three events scheduled there and I have a special affection for the Hurley Pro as it not only allows me to see the fabulous break with just three and then two guys out, but the quality of the surfing we see with the top 44 ASP surfers in the water is incredible and inspiring. Watching Parko, Fanning, Kelly and CJ, etc. murder Lowers is insane and with Hurley bumping the first prize to $100K we'll see some aggro. Bring it on!
