CONDITIONS: Perfect Sunset Beach and a crowded lineup are pretty much synonymous with one another.

But competitors at the Billabong Junior Pro in Memory of Ronnie Burns scored solid head high swell and sheet glass conditions, a rarity for the frequently trade wind-torn North Shore, with just three other people out. And the girls took full advantage of the barrels and open faces that Sunset had to offer throughout the day of competition on Tuesday.
HIGHLIGHTS: Catherine Clark from Santa Barbara, California broke out of the gates with her unexpectedly impressive performance at Sunset. She eventually landed herself a slot in the Final along with Kauai's Leila Hurst and Nage Melamed and Honolulu's Carissa Moore.

On the first wave ridden in the Final, Leila set the bar for her competitors by racking up a seven-point ride. Carissa quickly answered with a big blowtail followed by several roundhouses. Soon after, Nage and Catherine picked off a few but their scores didn't hold up to Leila and Carissa's leads.

For the remainder of the Final, Carissa and Leila took up a two-person battle for first place but with Carissa possessing the Final's only score in the eight-point range, she ended up on top. And in similar fashion during her Semifinal, the high school senior also managed to pull off the only perfect 10-point ride of the event.

This competition is one of the qualifiers for the annual Billabong World Junior Championships held in Narrabeen, Australia this coming January 3-10. While Carissa has now earned herself a slot in the prestigious event which determines the ASP Junior World Champ each year, she already says she won't be attending due to school priorities.

FINAL RESULTS:
1st Carissa Moore - $1,200
2nd Leila Hurst
3rd Nage Melamed
4th Catherine Clark
