CONDITIONS: Two- to four-foot, peaky and fun. Perfect for this hot crop of North American Under 21s to get busy with. Thanks to a long-period south swell mixing with a shorter-period west swell, Seaside Reef offered up something for everyone. In fact, Hawaii's Tanner Hendrickson blew through his Day One heats by opting for Seaside's rare righthanders. |

HIGHLIGHTS: Geiselman's back! After admitting he's "not having the best year like last year", the Floridian goofyfooter made his march to the podium known early on, dropping a contest-high 9.5 on a solid left in the semifinals. And even though most of these kids take it "heat by heat", there's a bigger goal in mind. All want to get results in the North America Pro Junior rankings to qualify them for the ASP World Juniors. Geiselman's win here puts him within serious striking distance of current ratings leader Kolohe Andino. So watch for a stellar showdown at the Oakley Pro Junior next week at Lower Trestles. OUTSTANDING PERFORMERS: We'll give this one to the ladies. Santa Barbara phenom Lakey Peterson had one goal in mind from the start. "I want to go to Worlds and this result puts me in a good position," Peterson said. Topping a stellar field in near-firing surf, Peterson's assault was too much for fellow finalists Nage Melamed, Leila Hurst and Taylor Pitz. Mixing power with innovation, Peterson coasted to the winner's circle. "The final was super fun and the waves were super good the whole time," Peterson admitted. "The waves never really stopped which was nice. I didn't really have that good of heats in the beginning and I had been sick in bed the past few days. All of the girls were surfing so well and I'm excited to win." QUOTE OF THE DAY: "This win helps my confidence after a slow start this year and I'm so excited for the next event. I want to do really well at Lowers and try and catch Brother and try to make it a bit of a race." -- Evan Geiselman RESULTS: Men's Pro Junior Final: 1 - Evan Geiselman 11.17 2 - Kolohe Andino 10.67 3 - Chase Wilson 8.47 4 - Dane Zaun 7.26 Women's Pro Junior Final: 1 - Lakey Peterson 14.76 2 - Nage Melamed 11.10 3 - Leila Hurst 6.60 4 - Taylor Pitz 6.40 MORE SURF NEWS SURFLINE HOME PAGE |
