Yes, Simon d, I have seen them surf live and they are phenomenal surfers, but YOU were probably too emotionally jacked up to thoughtfully consider my comments while trying to type 'Ausssii Aussie Aussie oi oi oi' into your response. I wasn't comparing them to me, but the elite company Ian's trying to put him in. Notice you couldn't answer my charge that Parko has no backside umph or has yet to claim a legendary victory to validate such a biased assertion.

We recently saw a power ranking with Kelly at #1, a first for Kanga as he's obviously frustrated by one man being the rarest of athletes in sporting history. Figure this out Ian. Jordy has a 5,5,1,17. Kelly has a 9,1,17,3. These are actually equal placings yet the dif between 9th n 5th is 1500 pts. and from 5th to 3rd is 1250 pts. This is how Jordy is 250 pts ahead of Kelly. Why do they offer more points from 9th to 5th than they do 5th to 3rd? IMO Kelly/Jordy should have = pts.5th-3rd is harder

Taj lovers, I have watched that heat over and over again to see the push on Kelly. Taj's only great moves in that final were A. picking the largest set wave and B. Finishing it off strong. Otherwise watch how simply cautious he hit the lip. None were vertical. They were more sideways as you can tell he was trying to stay ahead and get down the line as fast as he could. His cutbacks were only halfway check swings instead of followed through. Slaters rides had so much variety/repertoire. WIN

I have no problems with Aussie surfers on the whole, Simon. Matter of fact, I would love to see Parko or Taj win a world title apiece, especially if it meant flickster being through. Seems that Aussies are more concerned with inner-bicep tattoos, mate-ship, and video segments at three foot Keramas than they are with the completeness (or in flick's case, repetitiveness) to win a title. By the way, is there an aussie alive, aside from Occy, who has EVER matched Dane, Slater, or AI for power?

2008, Trestles, does any one else remember Kelly's outstretched arms as he exited the water after the final. I think they call that pandering to the judges(brown nosing). What's that got to do with Taj's performance? Maybe Ian was drinking early that day, or maybe he was busy ogleing So Cal' finest. But one thing is for certain, Taj was robbed!

@ReB: CJ's WT was a one hit wonder, a fluke even, given the cancelled tour that year.

Everyone knows Kelly's the best but I'd rather watch Dane than anybody. The guy will win alot of world titles, he oozes talent. Mick and Taj are boring, go Ventura Dane!!
simon d 09/11/2010 04:20 PM
who are these muppets giving mick fanning and the other aussies grief.Ben and bretto your have obviously never seen them surf and must be real bonafide rippers .Get over yourselves and let em all do what they do best which is embarass the rest of us
ReB 09/11/2010 01:28 PM
Come on for Dane's sake. you got CJ Hobgood, one-time world champ and Teahupoo finalist, at 12th ?! Ian, that's a freaky call, bro !
Ben 09/11/2010 11:45 AM
Ian has an inexplicable Mick Fanning fetish. A boring surfer who has speed turned his way to two world titles and done absolutely nothing of note this year does not deserve to be fifth on the power rankings. Notice how Kanga refers to the title race coming down to Jordy, Slater, Taj, AI, and Mick with no mention of Dane, despite the fact that Dane is clearly a superior surfer who has generated better results this year. By the way, everybody and their uncle knows that Slater will win a 10th in 10

Re: Jason 2008 If you like Taj's style, yeah he could have won, but if it bothers you how every wiggle seems like an obvious set-up for an air attempt down the line or how Taj seems to jerk around a bit - then Kelly won by far.

TB 6th? No way. At least he actually (though barely) lost at Chopes. He was robbed in Brazil making his 3rd place ranking illegitimate. Not to mention Jordy was blatantly pushed through at least one (& arguably 2) heat in South Africa.

You guys change the opinions like girls change clothes, hey start standing behind your predictions, instead of just looking for the last result!!!
Papa Nichols 09/11/2010 04:56 AM
It is called the power rankings for a reason, just because you are #7 on it the formal rankings doesn't you are not entitled to a #3 ranking, (read the criteria) and you'll understand why he was given such high result, "Andy" that is, i agree based on momentum that is a correct notation and indeed an ascending and very dangerous surfer on the rise with nothig to lose and all to gain, go Kelly though.
