CONDITIONS: A VERY solid swell marched into La Vaca (Spanish for "The Cow") last week; some sets were 15-foot-plus with strong offshore winds. Fourteen big-wave-charger competitors and hundreds of spectators were on hand.

OVERALL PERFORMERS: Some of the top big wave surfers from Cantabria and the Basque Country charged, as well as Pilou Ducalme from France and Gabe Davies from the United Kingdom. In the end, La Vaca might have offered the biggest performance on this day. Check out the official contest video here.

SPANISH BIG-WAVE CONTEST GOES OFF
Petin, again, on a solid one.
HIGHLIGHTS: Former Spanish champ Michel Velasco won the individual 'Biggest Wave' prize, but not without some competition from a hell-bent Axi Muniain. In one of the gnarlier sequences of the day, Pilou Ducalme narrowly escaped Vaca's death-by-rocks only to watch the nearby rescue jetski get served. The rider, thankfully, fared better than the ski.
