CONDITIONS: Not exactly the mammoth paddle-in surf of a few weeks ago, but a few spotty barrels and big beachbreak turns were lurking around the Mexican Pipeline's lineup. The finals were a bit inconsistent, but Clay Marzo seemed to make the most of his opportunities.

HIGHLIGHTS:
Marzo launched into an 8.25 and a 9.25 before his fellow finalists knew what hit them. Even Puerto local Angelo Lozano was left scratching his head. "I was just happy to make the Final," Lozano said of his third place finish. "I was waiting for some barrels out there. I saw Clay get a good one, so I wanted to wait for a hollow one. I waited and waited and it never came."

MARZO WINS QUIKSILVER PRO PUERTO ESCONDIDO
Puerto Escondido is a happening place this time of year. Add in a WQS event and it really turns on.
Lozano, who made the final last year as well, was joined in the wake of Marzo by runner-up Junior Faria and California's Cory Arrambide. Arrambide flipped out just to get into the final, literally. "I've been practicing them at home," Arrambide said of his semifinal aerial flip. "I've been watching Dane (Reynolds) do them and they're pretty inspiring and I've wanted to do one in a contest. Finally I pulled one off, it wasn't big or anything, but I'm stoked I got it."

QUOTE:
"I saw this section coming and knew I needed to do something big. I did a little tack and luckily I did a big throw-tail and came out fins first and was able to spin it around." -- Clay Marzo

RESULTS:
1- Clay Marzo (HAW) 17.50
2- Junior Faria (BRA) 11.50
3- Angelo Lozano (MEX) 8.20
4- Cory Arrambide (USA) 6.20
