CONDITIONS: Friggen cold -- this is Scotland after all. But despite the chill, there were plenty of super-contestable three-to-five foot, glassy rights gracing Thruso East. "I knew it was a good wave here," Sunny Garcia said after finishing equal fifth. "The waves earlier were suiting my surfing more but the sudden drop in the swell made it too difficult."

OUTSTANDING PERFORMERS: Two Aussies were all that remained in tact for the ultimate dual after the final day saw 23 heats completed. Adam Robertson outlasted Adam Melling in the man-on-man final to take the Highlander's sword and 3000 WQS ratings points. "It is the best day of my life," Robertson said. "I could not wait to raise that sword, it is like a dream coming true for me... I cannot believe it." Robinson slashed and sliced his way through five heats, taking down Matt Wilkinson and David Weare in the quarters and semis, respectively.

DRAWING HIS SWORD
"It is the best day of my life," said Adam Robertson, still glowing from his big win. "I could not wait to raise that sword, it is like a dream coming true for me... I cannot believe it."

HIGHLIGHTS: Sunny Garcia finished equal fifth and now sits in the Top 20 of the WQS. It's still early but it looks like Sunny has a pretty good shot at fulfilling his goal of requalifying for the 2009 ASP World Tour. "I feel like it is makable for me right now," Garcia said. "I know it is not going to be easy but I am going to train during this month break before the Maldives and I will more prepared for the smaller waves."

Let's not forget David Weare, fresh off his win at the six-star Prime in Durban. Weare's third place finish in Thurso has him sitting in third place over all in the WQS ratings.

Speaking of ratings, California's own Austin Ware now leads the entire ASP WQS grovel-squad ahead of second place Pat Gudauskas and Weare. Ware, who finished runner-up to Weare in Durbs, had a tremendous run in Thurso as well. He was on point the entire event before falling in the man-on-man match-up with eventual winner, Adam Robertson

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "Fifth is good but I still wanted to win." - Sunny Garcia.
