PRESS RELEASE

Lauren Benton Angulo creates a story about a young teen and a dispirited ex-pro who are both learning how to navigate life through surfing. Kaimana Keller is a 15-year-old boy with a somewhat privileged upbringing and the potential to be the next surfing superstar. A typical adolescent, he is primarily attempting to survive the complexities of high school and his teenage years.
Kaimana's life is forever changed when, while surfing, he is knocked unconscious by a water-logged coconut in the barrel. Fortunately, thanks to a responsive but resistant ex pro surfer named Kekoa who happens to be paddling by, Kaimana narrowly avoids drowning.

With Kaimana left in a coma, Kekoa is drawn to secretly visit his hospital room to watch over the boy. He tells stories of past victories and disasters that have played an equal part in shaping Kekoa into the moody, cynical man he is today. As he listens, young Kaimana recalls his own turning points in life but slips farther away from reality and a recovery.

Slowly, Kekoa realizes that he may be the key to pulling the young Kaimana back to the world of the living. In order to do that, Kekoa will have to shed his self-hate and depressed persona and embrace his gifts and ability to positively contribute to Kaimana's healing.

A coming-of-age story showing there are lessons, processes and moments that are better late than never, Angulo's exciting tale explores the topics of self-doubt, fear, gratitude and personal transformation. Living in one of the hubs of pro surfing and as a mother of a national-level competitive teen surfer, she drew her inspiration not too far from home. With "Caught Inside," Angulo wanted to create a story that her son and his friends could not only enjoy but connect with as young adults.

"Caught Inside: A Surfing Passage" is available for sale online at Amazon.com, Surferseen.com and other channels.
