PRESS RELEASE
Masters World Champion Tandem Surfer and cast member of Fuel TV's Hawaii adventure show "Clean Break" Bear Woznick says, "You should never trust anyone until they have been to hell and back (emphasis on the "and back")." By this definition, He is very trustworthy. In Deep in the Wave: A Surfing Guide to the Soul, (July 2012, Center Street/Hachette Book Group) he sets out to prove his statement, by taking you deep into his journey into surfing, and through a life that took him deep into God. The ocean, the surf is the theater where his soul awakens and thrives. "Not to Surf would be not to breath. In his new book Deep in the Wave: A Surfing Guide to the Soul, Bear Woznick takes readers into a deep connection between a surfer's soul and the wave that he does not just ride but come one with through all hours of the day, in all degrees of weather and danger. Not just as a surfer but in every possible connection with the ocean as a Waterman. He takes this sense of flowing with the wave to becoming one with the Creator, the one who sends the Waves. The spiritual journey described in DEEP IN THE WAVE is as exciting as the surfing and Bear keeps readers engaged every step of the way. As Bear says, surfers take risks "going deep" into a big wave and we all can take the same risk and quest to "go deep" spiritually on our path to God. "The most radical thing that you can do in your life, is be true to yourself." More about DEEP IN THE WAVE: Readers will be captivated by all the inside surfing information, from learning how a surfboard is made to accompanying the author as he describes catching a monster wave and riding for his life. In DEEP IN THE WAVE Bear's portrayal of the beauty and power of the ocean is an inspiring one that truly showcases the profound meaning surfing has had on his life. Instead of standing on the shore with our toes in the surf, Bear takes us on the board--to the deep water--to watch and wait--and, if need be, to paddle hard to survive. Bear thrives the uncertainty of adventure, "You might say I have an adventurous soul." He is a ninja black belt, a skydiver. He rides his Harley with what was once the baddest motorcycle club in Hawaii, and he is a "really bad" pilot. He has twice run with the bulls in Pamplona, he has paddled his surfboard across the thirty-five miles of treacherous open ocean between Molokai and Oahu, and he has bicycled across the continental United States. "I used to play guitar and drums, but I've given them up for the ukulele" He seeks out spiritual adventures as actively as I seek out physical ones. He is an oblate of the Benedictine Monastery of Oahu and presents to youth groups and inspirational events. Bear Woznick (born September 21, 1953, Powers Lake, ND, USA) is an American author, two time Masters World Champion Tandem surfer and appointed as the Ambassador of Tandem Surfing. He co-founded the International Tandem Surfing Association for serious competitors as well as The BearsWave.Com Tandem Expression Teams for those who enjoy just presenting the beauty and art of tandem. |
