WOMEN DESIGN FOR HUMANITY TO BENEFIT CHARITY: WATER

If you've never been to Billabong's Design for Humanity, go now. Seriously, you've been missing out.

On June 17th, Design for Humanity, or DFH, is coming to town again and this time they'll be bringing two bands to the stage. Plus, Avalon/Bardot in Hollywood will be showcasing an all-new art and photography exhibit for curious eyes, an exclusive runway fashion show with one-of-a-kind celebrity designs and more audile and visual stimulation than any other night on the surf industry party calendar.

But the best part of it all? Proceeds from this single night of entertainment and fun benefit charity: water, a nonprofit organization that works to bring clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations.
In fact, one hundred percent of DFH ticket sales will go directly to charity: water, as well as every dollar made from the silent auction the night of the event which will be selling the unique swimsuits from the fashion show.

Since charity: water was founded and began activity in August 2006, they have funded the construction of more than 890 wells that, when completed, will provide clean drinking water to 450,000 people. The charity uses 100 percent of the money it raises to directly fund freshwater well and sanitation projects in some of the poorest communities in Africa, India and Central America.

Upstairs from the runway, another silent auction will feature works by well-known industry artists such as, Barry McGee, Geoff McFetridge, Steven Harrington and Wolfgang Bloch. Their art and photography will be listed on eBay beginning June 9th until June 16th with a "buy it now" option. All art will be previewed in the gallery and available pieces will be sold during the silent auction at the event.

To cap off the fashion and art shows, up-and-coming indie band The Airborne Toxic Event will perform with Iglu & Hartly as their opening act. Maybe you haven't heard of either of these groups but a year ago when MGMT performed at the 2008 DFH event, few people had heard of them. And anyone who even slightly follows new music, knows exactly who MGMT is and how incredible of a performance they put on at last year's DFH. So you can bet that Billabong spent plenty of time carefully selecting which bands to follow up with.
