HANG LOOSE SANTA CATARINA PRO: DAY FIVE
Another sunny down-day in Brazil as officials prepare to run on Thursday
After dispensing two full rounds of competition Saturday and Sunday, Wednesday marked the third consecutive lay day at the Hang Loose Santa Catarina Pro.
A dawn surf check confirmed that, as predicted, the surf had dropped further -- which did not stop Mick Campbell and Mick Fanning from paddling out and getting a quick practice surf in at 7am. They were joined later in the day by other tour surfers like the Hobgoods, Bobby, Nathaniel Curran and Kekoa Bacalso, who, according to the Hobgood's website managed to break his center fin out -- with his backside. (And we don't mean on a left.)
Organizers remained hopeful that a new swell would fill in on Thursday. Their hopes were confirmed as glimmers of the swell started hitting the beach in the afternoon and evening today. Check back for the full report tomorrow.
