The Slater thing: Well, how can I put this? It's exciting to see a living working legend making history. Just hope the man is as happy as he surfs, would be a damn shame if he wasn't. He sure makes me happier just to watch him! The rest: JBay really sets apart 2 packs - those that know the wave and those that don't! It's a alltogheter different wave. Shame my boy Tiago was in the 2nd pack, next time he, Dane R. & others should spend some pre-event time there in order to make it interesting!

you cannot deny kelly's dominence. he's not only the best contest sufer of all time he's the best most accomplished ever. just don't see a weakness, has even improved over the Kelly of 5 years ago, just insipring focus, disipline, confidence, man! Doesn't free surf that much? Does anyone know his workout routine

Slater is on steroids. And will win as long as he wants, after all Bonds best years were also around 37 years old. He hardly free surfs, spends a lot of time in L.A. where you can get whatever, whenever. But the biggest indicator is his own level of improvement. He is surfing way better than ever, pretty hard to drastically improve at that age, some would even say it's unnatural.

kelly didn't win 4 of 5, he won 4 of 4, that means he won 4.something % of 5 events

Fanning was the man of the event. Untill the finals... Mick X CJ: What was that move on Fanning's first wave??? www.billabongpro.com

You got to love Surfing right now. Kelly Slater has accomplished and will continue to accomplish what may only a few will ever aspire to achieve for the world of Surfing! Whether you are a fan or simple envious of all those darn trophies and titles, you got to respect that kind of intensity, focus, and style that only Kelly can drive competitors to want to achieve!

Lewis, I enjoy the writings! I too think Kelly earns his wins, he puts it all out here, holds back nothing.

You can't be saying that Kelly was handed that win? He dominated! Open your eyes! I wouldn't mind seeing someone else number one if he could take it from the current number one. Kelly just flat out kicks ass.
Oscar Ferreira 07/25/2008 01:08 PM
Again You put De Sousa in the wrong position! He is number 6 now!

must get a life too...having said that...i love the power rankings...and look forward to them every time !! to be honest i m not qualified to realy know...but i do think kelly is also lucky...for him to win...it means a large number of very gifted people need to lose...and simply probability-wise..it's so unlikely for that to happen so consistently.. i know that..at the back of my mind...i always want him to win...it's just so unusually perfect

To answer your 3rd question for Mick Fanning as to why he surfed bad in the final: The conditions totally changed. Before the final the surf was pretty much pumping with offshores the whole contest. In the final, it was onshore and super choppy. Fanning fell several times because his weight was too far shifted to his front foot. Watch the heat highlights again - you'll see what I'm talking about. Kelly surfed it good as he grew up with those choppy conditions in florida.

Jordy is not getting bigger, his boards are too small. It's like watching someone on those mini-skis - They do all the big tricks, but you need to use your immagination to add any scale. He also looks like Moe Szyslak.

The love of Tiago is laughable. The continual dissing of Bede is ridiculous -- did he do something that crossed the good ol boys that control surfing? Parko is over rated. The reason he makes it look easy is because he does things that are easy. Kelly was doing far more radical manuevers in far more critical sections of the wave.

Slater earns every win. If it looks easy it is because of his supreme skill. He is #1 and will be for some years to come.
