Trip to the Caribbean, anyone?.
The Caribbean has numerous moderate to strong swell events setting up over the next several days thanks to an abundance of North Atlantic storms.
Continued below...
The wave spectrum plot to the above left shows you ALL of the deep water swell energy expected to near Puerto Rico over the next 120 hours. The color of shading on the compass represents the wave height in feet as described in the color bar at the top, the period increases as you move away from the center, and where the shading is on the compass represents what direction the swell is coming from. LOLA also picks out the top 4 swell events and labels them just below the plot. Remember, if you are interested in a specific time period you can always click on the forecast hour you are interested in at the top and it will stop the loop at that time. To the right of the compass, LOLA tells you pretty much the same thing in perhaps an easier format to read.

In a nutshell, Puerto Rico is looking at fading NNW swell into the weekend (but still likely fun sized in Rincon), rising NE ground swell into the weekend, and a potential solid NNW swell around next Tuesday and Wednesday. We realize this is a lot to digest, so be sure to check the Surfline Caribbean Forecast - where we do the work for you.

WHAT IS LOLA?

LOLA is the world's only automated global surf forecasting tool. LOLA can forecast waves right down the street, or it can predict surf conditions at the top spots around the globe - breaks like Tavarua, Tahiti and Jeffrey's Bay.

LOLA uses the NOAA Wavewatch III engine (running on our own computers) with Surfline-modified data from various wind models (AVN, GFS, MRF). Then LOLA combines this information with empirical data we've programmed into her gained from over 30 years of surf and weather analysis here at Surfline.

LOLA also gathers real-time data from offshore buoys to measure wave pulses from storms around the world every hour. She taps into orbiting satellites to measure hurricane-force winds and tremendous wave heights in the heart of raging storms when huge ships are running for cover. She computes near-shore wave animations measuring detailed wave heights along the coast, taking into account how swells are distorted by offshore islands and the continental shelf.

When you add it all up, LOLA is the ultimate forecasting tool for surfers looking for timely, accurate and comprehensive information about waves.

Initially, we created LOLA as a proprietary tool for Surfline forecasters. But we decided to share the knowledge and give Surfline's Premium Members the chance to use LOLA themselves, to give them the best chance to score more good surf more often.
