APSPR Corona Extra Pro Crowns Wesley Toth and Chelsea Tuach

MIDDLES, Isabela, Puerto Rico (Sunday, November 10, 2013) - The 24th edition of the Corona Extra Pro Circuit at Middles Beach in Isabela, Puerto Rico crowned Puerto Rican Wesley Toth and Chelsea Tuach from Barbados in 5 to 6 foot, competitive surf. Runners-up were Gabriel Escudero from San Juan, Puerto Rico and Nikki Viesins from Indialantic, Florida. Toth narrowly defeated Escudero in a close final. Toth won with a heat total of a 13.57 to Escudero's 13.33. Chelsea Tuach edged out Viesins in a highly competitive heat; Tuach scored a 13.33 heat total to Viesins' 11.13.
The Corona Pro Women's Pro winner Chelsea Tuach (Barbados) earned $5,000 for her win. Conditions depleted throughout the day as the trade winds began to blow but Tuach was able to adjust to the change and take home the win. Chelsea managed to surf her way through 5 rounds, while never losing a heat.
The best of the women's surfing on the final day was seen during the earlier Women's rounds. Maria Kuzmovich (PR) held down the highest single wave a 8.7 for two massive forehand hacks in the Middles bowl in her Round 2 win. Kuzmovich also has the highest heat total 14.53 on the Women's side. Runner-up Nikki Viesins who also displayed excellent surfing with the second highest single wave score of an 8.1. The crowd also saw strong surfing from semi-finalists Amy Murphree (Rincon,PR) and Alexis Engstrom (Rincon, PR/ NY).
On the Men's Pro side of the event Wesley Toth became the first Puerto Rican to have his name signed to the 1st place $10,000 check. He defeated a strong and consistent surfer and fellow Puerto Rican, Gabby Escudero. Toth narrowly defeated Escudero in a nail-biting, goofy-footer final. Toth credits his win to surfing a smart heat and utilizing the priority system to his advantage.
Excellent surfing was also on display by semi-finalists Alejandro Moreda (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Cody Thompson (Florida) who had the second highest single wave of the day a 9.17. The most anticipated he
