Posted: (09/03)
Hub Strategy announced today they will be hosting Carve San Francisco, the first ever international sand sculpture competition to be held in the city of San Francisco. Carve showcases the extreme art of sand sculpting, inviting teams from around the world to sculpt 400 tons of sand into astounding and intricate works of art over five days. Sand Masters are unconventional artists who create unimaginable masterpieces on a massive scale that defy expectations and often defy gravity.
Following the success of Carve Tahoe, an international snow sculpture competition held this past February at Vail Resorts' Northstar California, Carve San Francisco features sculpting, surf artistry and board shaping, music and gourmet food trucks provided by Off The Grid.
Carve features accomplished sculptors and artists including Lawrence Noble, Chairman of Academy of Art University's Sculpture Department and famous for creating the 'Yoda Fountain' for George Lucas in the Presidio. Carve also showcases sand artists featured on The Travel Networks' 'The Sand Masters.'
Carve will be held from October 15th-20th near the Sports Basement in the Presidio and will include daily activities including "Sandcastles & Schools" in which Bay Area students K-12 are invited to meet the artists, learn about ocean preservation and restoration, and play in 25 tons of sand.
Carve San Francisco brings awareness to and raises funds two non profits, the San Francisco Chapter of Surfrider Foundation and Sustainable Surf. Funds are raised by encouraging visitors to vote with $1 for their favorite sculptures.
