Jamie Bateman leads Surfline’s forecasting coverage across the United Kingdom, Ireland, and much of Western Europe, with particular expertise in the complex tidal coastlines of the North Atlantic. Living and surfing along the Bristol Channel, where some of the world’s largest tidal ranges dramatically influence surf conditions, has given him a deep appreciation for the relationship between swell, tide, and local geography.
Long before surf forecasting became digital, Jamie was recording BBC weatherbroadcasts onto VHS tapes so he could pause pressure charts and plan surf tripsaround incoming storms. Decades later, that same fascination still drives hiswork. He has spent years forecasting major UK events and recently helped leadSurfline’s coverage of the historic North Atlantic swell run during the winterof 2025–26.
