Surfline Launches "Shark Month" Presented By Casio
June 01, 2010
Series Presents A Wide Range Of Information And Also Focuses On The Unique Relationship Between Sharks and Surfers.

Huntington Beach, CA, June 3, 2010 -- Surfline thinks it takes more than a week to explain the truly unique relationship surfers have with sharks. No other sportsmen spend as much time in the presence and environment of sharks as surfers. Therefore, Surfline has launched "Shark Month" presented by Casio to fully explain and communicate this special relationship as well as many other interesting facts, figures and opinions about the sea's most respected predator.

Surfline's Shark Month includes:

Week One: What Lies Beneath

In its worst case, fear of sharks is called Selachophobia. There are really people in Idaho who are terrified of sharks. Why are people so afraid of sharks? How long have sharks dominated people's psyches? What is the historical relationship surfers have with sharks?

Week Two: Know Thy Enemy -- and Thy Friend

Surfline breaks down the deadliest - and friendliest sharks. Know Thy Enemy also includes a description of shark territories and behavior, major shark zones of study, and the newest shark findings.

Week Three: Anatomy of a Shark Attack

Surfline explores the prime settings of a shark attack. Where do most shark bites occur? How does a shark think and see what's around them, including prey? How do you defend against an attack? What it feels like to be bitten and how to respond medically if attacked.

Week Four: Bloody Dozen -- The Greatest/Worst/Strangest Attacks of All Time.

Surfline explores the most remembered and amazing shark attacks ever, and sets the record straight on the numbers and reality of shark attacks.

George Burgess, Director of the Florida Program for Shark Research and Curator for International Shark Attack File concludes, "Certainly, surfers are in the water more than anyone else. They're at that water/air interface, which is where people encounter sharks. And they have a unique perspective. There's not a single user group in the marine world that has I think a better appreciation of sharks and their place in the big picture."
