WEBISODE VBS.TV: SNOW DAY I peel back the curtain's from our seedy Jersey Shore motel room, to find everything is blanked in perfect white powder. I'm instantly like a little kid rushing around to get dressed. I'm putting on every piece of clothing I have since I wasn't expecting snow at all much less 12" overnight. My only shoe options are Vans or cowboy boots. So I put some plastic bags over my socks and step into the cowboy boots. The lady on TV is calling it a Snow Emergency, and they've already got a 3D graphic to illustrate the seriousness. A text from Rob Kelly says, school is officially cancelled, it's a Snow Day. I grab the camera and rush outside, the first thing I do is slip on the ice. The tripod flies through the air, I hold the camera like a baby, and take the fall right on the ole keester. Looking over I see the van is totally buried, and I've got no tools. I call Mike Caramella and ask if his dad can pick me up. 10 minutes later we're pulling up to the spot and running up the icy boardwalk. It's bombing! The wind is blowing hard offshore, the tide is coming in and it looks to be a few feet overhead. Before I can even set up my camera Mike is already out there and dropping into a heaving left. I already know the answer, but I ask his dad one more time, "He's a freshman?"
The Kelly Brothers, Matt Rink, and a few other kids show up. I filmed them with cold wet toes, while being pelted in the back with snow for a little over an hour. Eventually I'd had all I could stand, I packed up the camera, put on my suit, and squeezed my already numb feet into a pair of booties. Paddling out I was amazed to be the warmest I had been all morning.
