North Shore, Oahu
Sure, Kelly's already sealed the deal, but the North Shore of Oahu in December is as close you'll get to living inside a surf video game. And as we move through the next 30 days we'll see the North Pacific become more active and unstable with a seemingly endless supply of cold low pressures moving off of Asia. These are the storms that track west-to-east along the mid- and upper-latitudes that'll create most of the swell heading to Hawaii.

"It is life's compensation for a nature such as mine." - Tom Blake, Hawaiian Surfriders 1935

Oahu is a place most surfers will want to visit at least once, and if they happen to connect with a solid winter groundswell, they're unlikely to find its reputation lacking.

This ragged-edged island in the tropic zone of the mid-North Pacific is best known to most of the planet's population as the home of Aloha, and the target of a 1941 Japanese bombing run. To the rest of us millions of surfers, it's Ground Central for the modern sport of wave-riding -- birthplace of Duke Kahanamoku, tester of champions, and site of what still ranks as the most high-impact stretch of surfing coast on this earth.

Puerto Rico
The so called "Hawaii of the Atlantic" has been on fire all November; they just received the best hurricane swell of the year -- in early December. And rest of the month will see the beginnings of wintertime N and NW storms coming down off the Atlantic as the rest of the East Coast starts to freeze. Plus, JetBlue flies to PR for dirt cheap.
