Ventura beats Santa Cruz

The Ventura Pelicanos accomplished a straight sweep defeating the Santa Cruz Stormriders VC: 95.25- SC: 74.5 while winning all four games of the Ventura Pelicanos Game week, stop number 4 of the 2005 Quiksilver California Cup series.

It is the first time in the 2005 regular season that a team has been able to win all four games of their homestand game week, placing the Pelicanos back as serious contenders for the California Cup championships held at the end of May.
The Pelicanos now trail San Diego with a 4 wins and 3 losses record, even though they have the same amount of wins/losses as Santa Cruz due to points earned within the margin of victory (difference of points between the one team and another after each victory).

In today's Game 4, The Pelicanos were missing teammates, Timmy Curran and Nathaniel Curran but still had Dane Reynolds, Tom Curren and an entire roster of specialists. Ventura opted for Santa Cruz to surf first in stormy weather, yet somewhat clean chest to head high wave conditions. The Stormriders began their first quarter with a stable 23 point quarter with Adam Replogle providing a strong best wave score of 7.5.

Ventura's all star first quarter group included Dane Reynolds, Hank Mills, Adam Virs and Keoni Cuccia, surpassing Santa Cruz's first quarter by a mere .75 points, 23.75.

It was in the second quarter where things fell apart for Santa Cruz, as their second quarter group could only post a 15.25 while the Pelicanos delivered an electrifying 27 point quarter with the young Nick Rosza scoring a 8.5 point best wave. The Pelicanos continued their dominance as Santa Cruz failed to deliver any further quarter scores above 20 points.

Legendary surfer and Ventura Pelicanos star, Tom Curren expressed, "It's gone really well for us this week and it's really exciting to be back in contention. With a bad start, it always feels good to be in a better position. We have a really good team and it was good to see everyone surfing to their potential."

Ventura Pelicanos, Jeremy Ryan on winning and making the championships in crucial games next week in OC, "So stoked to win and to win four in a row, if we can win next week it looks pretty good, we might be able to pull it off if we don't blow it".
