My friend Martin's wipe out on Guam , from Typhoon Dale '96' was worse. No pictures, but medical records show; Damage caused by impact on coral reef; both Pelvic bones broken, three ribs broken, one Knee broken, one clasped long. Then the next wave drove his face into the coral reef. The cut on his ass was big enough to put you fist and forearm in. Three weeks in intensive care, 2 months in hospital, 3 months wheel chair. Surfing real waves 9 months after wipe out.

And Mike: not to take anything away from him, but he is not being modest (or a braggart for that matter. He doesn't say that he was "almost in the tube." He says he was "almost in the tube from the very beginning." Huge difference.

ugh, that last wipeout at shipsterns looks brutal. i'd take a wipeout in warm hawaii waters over 'sterns anyday.
