| Extremely consistent quasi-world class rock-bottom right point. Tends to be a favorite of San Salvadoran weekend warriors, so with a bit of tact and skill you can have your pick of waves even when it's crowded. On a solid swell it can hold up to 10 feet plus, peeling evenly along the rocks. A 30-minute bus ride from La Libertad costs less than a dollar American. Just look for the bus marked "El Zunzal." |
Best Tide: Low to mid Best Swell Direction: S-SW Best Size: 4-10 feet Best Wind: E-NE Perfect-O-Meter: 8 (1=Lake Erie; 10=Jeffreys Bay) Bottom: Rocks/boulders Ability Level: Beginner to advanced Bring Your: Shortboard, fish, and something with a bit more length for bigger swells Best Season: March-October Access: The bus from La Libertad takes about half an hour and costs less than a dollar. Crowd Factor: 5. Tends to be the choice for less-advanced surfers, so even when it's crowded you can still get waves. Local Vibe: 3. Mellow. Bicep Burn: 7 (1=1ft Waikiki; 10=15ft Ocean Beach) Poo Patrol: 1 (1=clean; 10=turds in the lineup) Shark Danger: 5 (1=none; 10=bring an iron cage) |

La Libertad is full of good places to grub, but the Zunzal area offers little. Pack some food for the bus trip.
