Surfline's LOLA Swell Model is the ONLY global swell model that can separate individual swells to accurately calculate surf heights for any location on Earth. Every surf spot will only have a limited range of swells that produce good surf at that location. Compare the LOLA swell forecast with a spot's "Optimal Conditions" information and your own local knowledge to score the best surf.
The "Swell Rose" above is the only one of it's kind in the world. This shows the directions of all the incoming swells
(N=0° East=90° etc). If you mouse over the swell rose you can see detailed raw numbers of the underlying swells.
US Weather data comes from the WeatherUnderground array of personal weather stations. Data is near realtime. International weather comes from LOLAs high resolution models or WUG where possible.
Tides are generated using the most excellent Xtide system.

Shark Alert: On September 8th, a surfer,Kyle, had his board bitten at Surf Beach, which is located = near Lompoc not farfrom Highway 1 and 240 wherethe road ends at Vandenberg Air Force Base inNorthern Santa Barbara County. Please exercise caution when surfing in the area and report any shark sighting, encounter, or attack to the Shark Research Committee.

The Santa Barbara Chapter of Surfrider will hold its fourth anniversary Paddle Out, Turn the Tide on Ocean Pollution event at Stearns Wharf from 11:00 am to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2008. People-powered participants of all ages are invited to join the paddle out in solidarity of preserving and protecting the worlds oceans. This event offers two levels of participation: ?(1) Open registration (FREE) ?(2) Surfrider Supporter for $25. The Surfrider Supporters will receive goodie bags, including an event tee shirt and a lunch ticket for Wahoos. Please be sure to bring your kids too. On Saturday, November 1, 2008 the Ocean Institute in Dana Point, CA will be hosting the first annual Surfscience Teen Conference.The Conference starts at 10:00am and goes until 4:00pm and is open to 8th-12th grade students. Teens will have the chance to meet Quiksilver pro surfer Lisa Andersen, participate in a mini-workshop on surf forecasting with Surfline scientist Kevin Wallis, and take a bus trip down to the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla.For more information check out the Ocean Institute¹swebsite or call (949) 496-2274.
