The second annual SURF SWAP MEET in Santa Barbara is being held on Saturday, October 18, from 9am3pm, at the Santa Barbara City College parking lot across from Leadbetter Beach. For a small fee you can recycle your unused surfboards, wetsuits, skateboards, leashes and other related items and make some money at the same time. Come to the Surf Swap Meet to check out the boards for sale, pick up some new surf gear for bargain prices, enter the raffle or to just hang out with friends. New this year is a balance competition on the Balance Bow for prizes and bragging rights. Arrive early for the best deals! All proceeds from stall rentals will benefit SBCC Women¹s Basketball. Shark Alert: On September 8th, a surfer,Kyle, had his board bitten at Surf Beach, which is located = near Lompoc not farfrom Highway 1 and 240 wherethe road ends at Vandenberg Air Force Base inNorthern Santa Barbara County. Please exercise caution when surfing in the area and report any shark sighting, encounter, or attack to the Shark Research Committee.

The Santa Barbara Chapter of Surfrider will hold its fourth anniversary Paddle Out, Turn the Tide on Ocean Pollution event at Stearns Wharf from 11:00 am to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2008. People-powered participants of all ages are invited to join the paddle out in solidarity of preserving and protecting the worlds oceans. This event offers two levels of participation: ?(1) Open registration (FREE) ?(2) Surfrider Supporter for $25. The Surfrider Supporters will receive goodie bags, including an event tee shirt and a lunch ticket for Wahoos. Please be sure to bring your kids too. Each child accompanied by one Surfrider Supporter will receive a goodie bag with a childrens shirt (quantities limited so be sure to register as soon as possible).More Information and Registration: http://www.sbsurfrider.org/

On Saturday, November 1, 2008 the Ocean Institute in Dana Point, CA will be hosting the first annual Surfscience Teen Conference.The Conference starts at 10:00am and goes until 4:00pm and is open to 8th-12th grade students. Teens will have the chance to meet Quiksilver pro surfer Lisa Andersen, participate in a mini-workshop on surf forecasting with Surfline scientist Kevin Wallis, and take a bus trip down to the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in La Jolla.For more information check out the Ocean Institute¹swebsite or call (949) 496-2274.
