Hello, this is David with the report for Thursday afternoon at 12:55pm.
1-3 ft - ankle to waist high and poor-fair conditions.
PM REGIONAL OVERVIEW: Leftover swell mix showing small scale surf this afternoon with mainly clean, crumbly lines in the 1-3' range with the better breaks a bit more consistent on those waist high sets. Looking pretty weak and gutless out there, probably best for those fatter/fuller type boards. Tide hits a .9' low around 1pm.
This Morning's Dawn Patrol: Clean, but small, weak, and inconsistent on the better waves. Looking best for a longboard. May improve a notch later this morning with less tide.
Mostly sunny skies with WSW winds 5-8kts.
Today we have a weak mix of a slow fading S swell and some minor NW windswell. Surf is small with only the bigger waves around knee-waist high at the better spots across the region. Conditions are clean and peaky this early morning, but a little gutless and fat with the 3.6' High tide at 7:20am. Tide then drops to a 0.9' Low at 1pm before filling back in to a 5.2' High at 7:25pm.
FRIDAY: Extreme angled NW swell builds in for the morning hours, with mainly waist high surf at the better breaks. A better WNW swell fills in over the afternoon with waist high+ surf by the late afternoon/evening at many spots, while standout spots see sets to shoulder high. Look for those waves to fill in a bit more as we head into Saturday morning.
Winds: Light/variable wind early. Afternoon W wind builds to 8-12kts.

The memorial will be at the La Jolla Shores Hotel (8110 Camino del Oro, La Jolla) this Saturday, May 17th, 4-7pm , followed by a paddleout at 7:30 (Water temp 65º. Bring a board/wetsuit.) Call 858-453-5500 for accommodations.

Tom Tanaka is facing his third bout with Leukemia in as many years. Tom normally surfs at tower 20 in Bolsa, but has been known to roam from Rincon down to San O. He had been teaching his kindergartner daughter to surf before the cancer was detected. The City of Hope Blood Donor Center is now calling people who have to give blood products in Tom's name. Please call for an appointment TODAY on behalf of Tom Tanaka. (All blood types are accepted and credited to his account). The phone number is 626-471-7171. Tom’s account number is 1514215, or just place his name on the form as the recipient.
What’s your surf spot worth? Help us find out. Researchers at UCLA are conducting a survey of surfers who surf at California surf spots to evaluate their worth. You can help by visiting this link and filling out the survey: http://www.beachology.com/surf. Your participation can help us better protect and manage California surf spots in the future.
WATER QUALITY WARNING: During much of the year water quality off south San Diego County beaches is notoriously poor due to flow from the Tijuana River. A 2006 San Diego State study off the Imperial Beach pier found hepatitis A in 80 percent of water samples within three days of rain events. For a real-time model of how the Tijuana River is affecting beach water quality visit http://www.sdcoos.org/data/tracking/IB/index.php or, for an update on beach closures, go to http://www.earth911.org/waterquality/default.asp?cluster=1.
It’s that time again! The Huntington Beach Surf Theatre Film Festival, sometimes termed the 'Golden Globes of Surfing", is again calling for entries for the following categories: Best Corpo Video, Best Independent Filmmaker, Most Innovative, Best Cinematography and Hot Grom Short (under 15 Minutes). More information on the festival is available online.
