Hey there, this is Jonjon with the report for Friday afternoon at 1:55pm.
2-3 ft
knee to waist high and fair - conditions.
PM Regional Overview: Minimal SW energy in the water this afternoon with onshore flow. Inconsistent 1-2' occasional 3' weak waves are showing for the better exposed breaks, many spots are flat or close to it. Forerunners of a new SW groundswell are starting to show on the buoys, but not really showing at the beaches just yet. The forecast is looking better for the weekend and into next week as the new SW fills in!
This morning's dawn patrol: Clean little peaks popping up with workable, but soft lines. Inconsistent.
Sunny skies with WSW wind around 8-13kts
Old SW swell eases further throughout the day. The better exposed breaks to the SW energy are holding inconsistent surf mainly around 1-2-3' with an occasional bigger wave for select spots. Surface conditions are clean this early morning. Overall, it is slow, but there are a few little waves to pick off if you wait long enough and have the right board.
SATURDAY: Old SW energy slowly fades out as a new, but small SW groundswell shows. Weak surf in the 1-2' occasional 3' range at the better exposed breaks. Inconsistent on the bigger sets. Cleanest early.
Wind: Calm to light/variable wind early. Then a seabreeze develops by the afternoon from the West around 5-10kts.

Big-wave surfing pioneer Jeff Clark broke his silence last week, saying "the reality is I was ousted" as director of the Mavericks Surf Contest and announcing that he has severed all ties with the company that runs it. Link to http://www.mercurynews.com/sports/ci_12697040?nclick_check=1 for the full story. Mavericks recently announced that the official waiting period for The 2009/2010 Mavericks Surf Contest will open on November 1st. Mavericks CEO Keir J. Beadling summed up the excitement, saying, “We’re thrilled to announce that this year’s big-wave contest season will begin earlier than ever before. We have long understood the importance of increasing the size of the contest window, but haven’t been able to do so." The announcement was especially meaningful to those who surf Mavericks. After watching the last contest season come and go without any contestable surf, competitors are more eager than ever for the 2009/2010 contest season to begin. Omar Etcheverry recently did a project with a Santa Cruz local nonprofit organization for surf kids called the Core. Had a bunch of companies sponsor it. Looks like the kids had a blast : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jpHn3i2YSYc&feature=channel_page.
