Hey, this is Sherwood with the report for Saturday afternoon at 12:20PM.
15-18 ft.
triple overhead + with occasional 20 ft. and poor to fair conditions.
PM REGIONAL OVERVIEW: Solid surf on tap this afternoon with plenty of double-triple overhead waves making it through. Standouts go even bigger. Winds are out of the W.
This morning's dawn patrol: Breaking way out the back with large sets that are mostly clean. However, making it past the inside may be a problem.
Sunny skies, W wind.
Large NW groundswell on tap across the region today with plenty of well overhead to triple overhead+ surf to be found across the region. Deepwater big-wave spots are breaking. Light winds prevail this early morning for fairly clean conditions. Exercise caution if or when going in the water today.
SUNDAY: Large, easing NW swell. Expect more well overhead waves to show at the North Hemi exposed breaks throughout the region. The good NW spots that can handle this swell will continue to produce double-triple overhead sets. Certain deepwater big-wave spots will still be breaking with sets up to 20'+ on the face. *Another day to exercise caution before entering the water. The more sheltered southerly exposures will be smaller, but cleaner.
Wind: Light North-NW wind early. NW by the afternoon around 7-11kts.

Letter of the Week: A BIG thanks to 'Josh' for helping me out this weekend at Sloat in SF. On a big OH/DOH day, my leash snapped. I took a couple on the head and started to take on water. I was a little panicked and started looking for help. A bro by the name of Josh swam over to calm me down and help me back to the shore. I just want to send him a HUGE thanks and a big debt of gratitute. A little humbling to be put in such a position, however, I'm glad he was there to lend a helping hand. Thanks, Josh for bringing me back to the shore and pulling me out of the pit! Scott from SF Movie Night! Mavericks recently announced that the official waiting period for The 2009/2010 Mavericks Surf Contest will open on November 1st. Mavericks CEO Keir J. Beadling summed up the excitement, saying, “We’re thrilled to announce that this year’s big-wave contest season will begin earlier than ever before. We have long understood the importance of increasing the size of the contest window, but haven’t been able to do so." The announcement was especially meaningful to those who surf Mavericks. After watching the last contest season come and go without any contestable surf, competitors are more eager than ever for the 2009/2010 contest season to begin. Your homebreak is under attack.
