Yo, this is Jonjon with the report for Thursday afternoon at 2:05pm.
2-3 ft.+
knee to chest high with occasional 4 ft. and poor-fair conditions.
PM Regional Overview: The fading combo of SW groundswell and NW windswell continues this afternoon. Surf is inconsistent and staying mostly in the 1-3' range for the region with occasional plus sets for the select spots that pick up the SW energy the best. Onshore flow this afternoon is creating some surface texture and bump. Overall, it looks meager and slow, but there are a few workable waves to be found when the sets finally roll in.
This morning's dawn patrol: Scattered peaks down the beach with workable/crumbly corners and sections to pick off. Looking best for a bigger/fatter board. Semi-clean with a light surface texture to it.
Hazy skies with WSW wind around 5-10kts
Fading combo of SW groundswell and NW windswell today. The better breaks are holding a peaky mix in the 2-3'+ range as standout spots have inconsistent sets up to 4'. Surface conditions this early morning have a little texture to it from the SW flow.
FRIDAY: Easing mix of SW groundswell and NW windswell. Crossed up peaks in the 1-3' range from the swell mix at the better exposed breaks to both swells. Inconsistent on the bigger sets. Best, cleanest early.
Wind: Calm to light/variable to light SW wind early. Then a seabreeze develops by the afternoon from the WSW around 5-10kts+.

Mavericks recently announced that the official waiting period for The 2009/2010 Mavericks Surf Contest will open on November 1st. Mavericks CEO Keir J. Beadling summed up the excitement, saying, “We’re thrilled to announce that this year’s big-wave contest season will begin earlier than ever before. We have long understood the importance of increasing the size of the contest window, but haven’t been able to do so." The announcement was especially meaningful to those who surf Mavericks. After watching the last contest season come and go without any contestable surf, competitors are more eager than ever for the 2009/2010 contest season to begin. Your homebreak is under attack. You just don’t know it yet. Over the coming years, increased coastal crowding and development will put every surf spot at risk. Fortunately, you can act now in its defense.
