Surfline's LOLA Swell Model is the ONLY global swell model that can separate individual swells to accurately calculate surf heights for any location on Earth. Every surf spot will only have a limited range of swells that produce good surf at that location. Compare the LOLA swell forecast with a spot's "Optimal Conditions" information and your own local knowledge to score the best surf.
The "Swell Rose" above is the only one of it's kind in the world. This shows the directions of all the incoming swells
(N=0° East=90° etc). If you mouse over the swell rose you can see detailed raw numbers of the underlying swells.
US Weather data comes from the WeatherUnderground array of personal weather stations. Data is near realtime. International weather comes from LOLAs high resolution models or WUG where possible.
Tides are generated using the most excellent Xtide system.

Breaking News: Unfortunately, contest organizers have been forced to cancel the All-Ages Surf Contest in Little Compton on October 25th.
How soon we forget. Seems like all it takes is a few days of flatness for those wonderful tropical memories to disappear. Well, check out Surfline’s September to Remember for sizzling a reflection on the action from all points East.
Then there’s the stuff folks don’t want you to see the first time, like the environmental mess Ike made, including a half-million gallons of spilled oil. And that’s just a drop compared to what will happen if we line our shores with rigs and refineries, giving nearly every named and unnamed storm a chance to pollute. With Congress lifting the ban on offshore drilling , now’s the time to contact your Senators and State Reps and tell them it’s time to explore for fresh energy solutions – not petroleum.
Okay, back to the fun stuff. After three months, the hottest video clips of the summer season have been narrowed down to the finalists in Billabong’s Freewave Challenge where $40,000 is up for grabs. Among the challengers are: Aaron Cormican and Cody Thompson for ‘Monster Maneuver”; Jesse Hines and Zander Morton for “Best Barrel”; and Kelly Nicely for “Longest Ride.” Final rankings will be announced starting October 15, 2008.
And let the shit-talking begin! The waiting period for 7th Annual Smith Optics Garden State Grudge Match is on from now until Oct. 20. Watch for the most favorable surf conditions, with a “contest green light” no less than 48 hours before the event. The annual comp pits the best the Garden State has to offer in a man vs. man format — from “the pros, to the bros, to Average Joes.” Winner takes the full $4500 purse — plus the prestigious ‘belt.’. Everyone else gets a bunch of crap.
Calling all city-dwelling sea lovers: on Oct. 8, NYC Surfrider will meet from 6:45 - 8:00 pm at The Inn (2nd Floor); 7 Ninth Avenue New York, NY. (In the Meatpacking District on the west side of Manhattan below 14th Street near the corner of Little W. 12th Street).
This weekend’s chock full of comps. First, the Volcom VQS Jellyfish tour stings Lincoln Blvd, NY on Oct. 11 and Casino Pier, NJ on Oct. 12. For more info call (949)646-2175x.6302 or email Volcom.
Also on Oct. 11, the 2nd Annual Kenny Tooker Memorial Surf Classic comes to Bayhead, NJ, sponsored by LocalSwell.com, Beach House and Garden State Marina. This scholarship fundraiser gave $500 checks to two PPBHS seniors and more are planned after this year’s event. The criteria is for an average student academically, but someone who is an all around nice kid — just like Kenny was.
And ESA CNJ pushed last week’s contest in Seaside Heights to Oct. 11-12, while will be at Broadway Beach with Open Shortboard and All Longboard Divisions on Oct. 11. (And if it was that flat, we can only assume that theNSSA Northeast conference will now crank up contest #6 at Hudson Ave. in Harvey Cedars on Oct. 12.)
And if that’s not enough competition for you, on Oct. 11, the film “One Track Mind” – Chris Malloy’s look at the champion’s psyche -- will show at The Surf Lodge in Montauk at 7:30 pm.
And Oct. 12, the 3rd Annual Surf Swap and Sale comes to Beach House Surf Shop in Bay Head, NJ. Buy, sell and trade your used surfboards and gear and buy new stuff. Starts at 9am; ends when the stuff’s gone. Find out more at NYNJSurf.com.
Not one to be outdone, Main Beach Surf and Sport in Wainscott ,Long Island is conducting a super board and gear swap now through Oct. 15. Just drop by any surf gear you want to sell betwee...
