Aloha, this is Kekoa with the report for Friday morning at 7:00 AM.
Flat and fair-good conditions.
Other than some minimal windswell flat conditions prevail. Tradewinds are gusty blowing in some wind driven waves but really that is about it. A better day for fishing, paddling and diving.
Mostly sunny with isolated showers.
Highs 81 to 89. East winds 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.
Another windy but nice day for the north shore unfortunately not much surf. The trade winds have kicked up some windswell at select spots but really that is about it. The Waimea Bay buoy stopped reporting data at 12:30 PM last night but Buoy 1 is reading 6 ft @ 8 seconds...so there is a bit of wind swell. Trade winds will remain breezy today but start to decrease as we head into the weekend. If you want to surf then go to town or the westside. How long are these summer doldrums going to last? Check our extended forecast for all the details.
FRIDAY: Some tradesswell wrap for select exposures around waist high but its not much for the North shores.
Wind: E/ENE Trades around 15-20kts+.

It's with a heavy heart we share the news of legendary filmmaker Bud Browne's passing on July 25th in San Luis Obispo, California. He was 96. There will be a Public Memorial on 8/25 @ 7pm @ Waimea Falls Park on Oahu, Hawaii. Contact timeidson@charter.net for more information.
This Friday, August 8th, Chris Cano and Matty Liu, from MATTY LIU PRODUCTIONS LLC, present THE ULTIMATE BEACH PARTY, a weekly Friday Night extravaganza @ Planet Hollywood in Waikiki. A mere $3 for validated parking in the building and you’ll be able to join in a musical tapestry of the best in Hip Hop, House, 80’s and more, spun from DJ Big John and DJ LT. 18+ welcome. We’ll see you there.
On 7/20, some knuckleheaded SOB killed and butchered a loved sea turtle on the North Shore. A 30 year old female, known as “Honey Girl” by local conservationists, was discovered beheaded and eviscerated at Turtle Beach, a small cove at Laniakea where the animals gather to eat and rest on the sand. The killing appeared to be one of pure viciousness, as the meat of the carcass was not taken. The species is threatened and under protection of federal conservation laws, and subject to stiff fines and jail time. Police are investigating.
Hawaii's Joy Monahan (formerly Magelssen) became the world¹s first ASP women's pro longboard champ by taking down first place in the Roxy Jam 1¹ 2¹ surf in Biarritz, France. In the same event, Hawaiian surf prodigy Carissa Moore also took out the ASP G2 Pro Junior shortboard to make it a sweep for the Hawaiians. Next up for Monahan is the Honolulu Roxy Jam Pro at the Duke¹s Oceanfest in Waikiki, August 17-24. Go island girls!!!
The overwhelming consensus among South Shore locals is that the summer of 2008 goes down as the best and most consistent seasons in decades. After last year¹s extended wave drought, anything would have looked good, and despite some funky winds, surfers enjoyed day after day after day of head high to well overhead bombs from Sandy Beach to Yokohama Bay, and the vibe on the beach and in the water was great as everyone got their fill. Heck, even the Bowls guys were giving away set waves!!!
Check out the tons of radical new summer surf action from Oahu's South Shores on Oceanic's Photoshow TV, digital ch.917; 2008 Hawaii State Championships at pumping Ala Mo, China's Womens Longboard contest at Queen's, and the Kewalo's crew tearing it up! The shows are courtesy of HawaiianSwell, and free to all digital subscribers. Tune in and see if your shot made it on!
Waikiki surf schools are on guard after several recent and mysterious cases of "Surfer's Myelopathy" struck visiting tourists learning to surf. The condition is supposedly induced by the sustained reverse hyperextension of the spinal cord when paddling on a surfboard, therefore restricting blood flow and oxygen to the spine, causing paralysis of incremental severity. No one knows better than surfers that our sport requires unique uses of our anatomy that no others do. Link:

Looking ahead: The Quiksilver Edition Molokai To Oahu Paddleboard Race is back again on Sunday, July 27th, with a SUP Division Presented by C4 Waterman. Stay tuned.
And "Bustin' Down the Door" is scheduled to premier in Hawaii on August 1, 2008 in theatres throughout the state. This full length feature film documents the birth of pro surfing in the mid-70's, the effect the young Aussies and South Africans had in revolutionizing North Shore surfing, and resulting bad blood with the Hawaiians.
T.Leefoto from Kona has just announced the publication of "Magic Sands of La'aloa" -- 80 pages of surf action from one of Hawaii's most unique beaches.
