LOCAL KNOWLEDGE
LOCAL NEWS:
Coast Swap! (Well, almost.) With the 2009NSSA Nationals running June 23-27, a good portion of East Coasters are off in California right now. Meanwhile, the summer season draws an equal number of pros and promo types – if not this week then quite soon. (Just see below.) And for a look at which homeboys got the best shots at a championship title, click here. (Hint: they share a name — but not the last one.)

Come check out the Channel Island Demo Tour all summer. Sample fresh Merrick models at one of the following stops, from 9am to 1pm: June 27, New Smyrna; July 11, Jupiter Pier; July 18, Deerfield; and July 25, St. Augustine Pier (northside).

On June 25, South Florida Surfrider will meet form 7-8:30pm at the Miami Beach Botanical Gardens. As always, pizza and refreshments served.
d
Broward Co. Surfrider will be taking part in the South Florida Paddleboard Summer Series when it starts June 28 at Pompano Beach. Check the site for details.

Meanwhile, Treasure Coast Surfrider has a newly designed website and Suncoast Surfrider has fundraising items live on their online auction.

Surfers for Autism is coming to Martin County on July 18 at Stuart Beach 8am - 2pm. Surf Central is a major sponsor of the event; contact the shop for details.

The new EasternSurf.com is already unloading –or is it uploading? Either way, keep tabs on the hot season with their 20 things to do this summer.

Your homebreak is under attack. You just don’t know it yet. Over the coming
years, increased coastal crowding and development will put every surf spot at risk. Fortunately, you can act now in its defense. Go to Surf-First.org and fill out the most comprehensive demographic survey in US history so we can fight any battle from Fernandina to the Florida gulf. And for the complete story on Surf-First’s long-term vision, click here.

And don’t forget the fight that affects every break and coastal economy: offshore drilling. Contact your Senators, State Reps and Governors and tell them it’s time to explore for fresh energy solutions – not petroleum. And go to Nottheanswer.org for updates on this issue and ways to automatically contact your politicians.

What’s the best part of a surf trip? That giant excess baggage fee the airlines pork you with on both sides, right? Wrong! Well, stop bitching and do something by signing this petition.
