Weak, this is Jonjon with the report for Friday afternoon at 1:50pm.
1-2 ft
ankle to knee high with occasional 3 ft. and poor conditions.
PM Regional Overview: Minimal SW and NW energy in the water this afternoon with onshore flow. Inconsistent 1-2' occasional 3' dribbly waves are showing for the better exposed breaks. Forerunners of a new SW groundswell are starting to show on the buoys, but not really showing at the beaches just yet. The forecast is looking better for the weekend and into next week as the new SW fills in!
This morning's dawn patrol: Scattered little peaks down the beach with workable, but weak corners and sections to pick off. Looking best for a bigger/fatter board. Mostly clean with a light surface texture to it. Inconsistent on the bigger sets.
Hazy skies with WSW wind around 8-10kts+
Old SW groundswell and NW windswell ease further throughout the day. The better exposed breaks to the SW energy are holding inconsistent surf mainly around 1-2-3' with an occasional bigger wave for select spots. Surface conditions are mostly this early morning with just a slight texture. Overall, it is slow, but there are a few little waves to pick off.
SATURDAY: Old SW/NW swells slowly fade out as a new, but small SW groundswell shows. Weak surf in the 1-2' occasional 3' range at the better exposed breaks to the SW energy. Inconsistent on the bigger sets. Cleanest early.
Wind: Calm to light/variable to very light onshore wind early. Then a seabreeze develops by the afternoon from the West around 5-10kts+.

Shark Alert: On June 7th, Drew Sievers reported a shark sighting at OB. Please report any shark sighting, encounter, or attack to the Shark Research Committee. Big-wave surfing pioneer Jeff Clark broke his silence last week, saying "the reality is I was ousted" as director of the Mavericks Surf Contest and announcing that he has severed all ties with the company that runs it. Link to http://www.mercurynews.com/sports/ci_12697040?nclick_check=1 for the full story. Mavericks recently announced that the official waiting period for The 2009/2010 Mavericks Surf Contest will open on November 1st. Mavericks CEO Keir J. Beadling summed up the excitement, saying, “We’re thrilled to announce that this year’s big-wave contest season will begin earlier than ever before. We have long understood the importance of increasing the size of the contest window, but haven’t been able to do so." The announcement was especially meaningful to those who surf Mavericks. After watching the last contest season come and go without any contestable surf, competitors are more eager than ever for the 2009/2010 contest season to begin. Your homebreak is under attack. You just don’t know it yet. Over the coming years, increased coastal crowding and development will put every surf spot at risk. Fortunately, you can act now in its defense.
