Breaking News: Unfortunately, contest organizers have been forced to cancel the All-Ages Surf Contest in Little Compton on October 25th.

USA! USA! Just when you thought the title race was over, the ISA World Games come along to give you another chance to cheer, this time backing up East Coast homeboys CJ Hobgood and Ben Bourgeois. Both were on the team the last time America struck gold in 1996, so maybe we’ll git ‘er done this time in Portugal. Watch it live here.

Back in New England, RI Surfrider has a few things brewing. First, on Oct. 21 they’ll meet from 6-7 pm at Blue Wave Pizza in Narragansett. Second, there’s a Trick or Trash Beach Cleanup on Oct. 25. They’ll meet in two different locations starting at 9 am; Newport's Easton's (First) Beach and the Narragansett Town Beach, then disperse to different locations. And though they won’t be having the ECODEPOT this fall, computer and TV recycling (also new for this year) will be conducted at the Narragansett Town Beach by Office Recycling Solutions/ Cartridge World. There will be a charge of $1 per computer and $5 charge per TV. All proceeds collected will go directly to the RI Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation.

ESA NNE had to cancel last weekend’s event at Long Sands, so they’re on standby for next weekend. Keep an eye on the site.

And both last week’s, Volcom VQS Jellyfish events in NJ and NY got cancelled due to lack of surf, but they’ll try again this weekend: Lincoln Blvd, NY on Oct. 18 and Casino Pier, NJ on Oct. 19. For more info call (949)646-2175x.6302 or email Volcom.

Corduroy’s used surfboard auction and movie event continues this month in Portland, ME. From now until Oct. 24, drop off any board that you would like to auction or enter bids on one you’d like to own. Come Oct. 25, the party starts and winners revealed with live bluegrass at 4pm, viewing and final bidding from 5 to 6:30, sealed bids opened at 8. Stop in the store or go to NESurf.com for details.

On Oct. 25, in Little Compton, RI there will be an All-Ages Surf Contest to Benefit Bulgarmarsh Park Renovation hosted by Sid Abruzzi of Waterbros. All interested surfers can go to www.tiverton.ri.gov> for a registration form (just click on recreation) or pick one up at Essex Library, 238 Highland Rd., Tiverton RI or Brownell Library, Commons, Little Compton RI. Mail-in entry fee is $20.00 due October 18. (Back-up date; Sunday, Oct. 26.) Call Waterbros on Friday night before the event at 401.848.WAVE.

Attention ocean lovers.
New Hampshire Surfrider is looking for people interested in filling officer positions. Email them with questions. You can also check the site for the data from the new UNH-maintained wave buoy on Jeffrey’s Ledge in the Gulf of Maine.

Or provide Surfrider Northern New England with some info of your own by contributing to their Ocean Illness Database the second you suspect you may have fallen sick due to surfing in the ocean off the coast of Maine.

In Grain Surfboards news, the boys are heading west again to Del Mar for the Sacred Craft Surfboard Expo but will return in plenty of time for the Build Your Own Surfboard Class: November 16 – 22. They need at least four builders who want to go for it and already have three committed. Sign up quick if you want to reserve a seat. Call 207-457-5313 or email Mike. And be sure to ask about their new 7’2” Longliner fish.

There’s a new ESM on the streets. Besides the long-awaited South Carolina expose, big space goes to a Ray Hallgreen portfolio, plus coverage of the SEA Paddle in Manhattan, Red Bull Nightriders, Grom Grudge Match, Heritage Pro Junior and the Chip Miller event. Get it in your local shop now!

The national election’s just three weeks away, but there’s another political fight that requires your action. With...
