choppy and sloppy at E facers, a little more behaved in town. S facers are cleaner but smaller.
AM Report:
The surf is semi-clean with some texture on it early, looking weak and disorganized early with light winds. sloppy and disorganized NE windswell / SE background swell mix for today. Winds are light NE early and will be NE today going N this afternoon. -- Check the Surfline forecast for details.

USA! USA! Just when you thought the title race was over, the ISA World Games come along to give you another chance to cheer, this time backing up East Coast homeboys CJ Hobgood and Ben Bourgeois. Both were on the team the last time America struck gold in 1996, so maybe we’ll git ‘er done this time in Portugal. Watch it live here. Back home, be sure to be at the Pit in Nags Head on Wed. Oct, 15 for the next Outer Banks Surfrider meeting. Meanwhile, the Georgia Chapter will meet Oct. 20, 7pm, at Tubby’s in Thunderbolt. And the Charleston Chapter will hold a Sullivan’s Island Beach Sweep on Oct. 21 at Station 16; starts at 5:30pm. On Oct. 19, Virginia Beach will be honoring Josh Thompson with a huge walk and beach party at the Ocean Front. Josh was tube riding Cloudbreak on Tavarua, and craving on Hawaiian swells just three years ago. Now with Lou Gehrig's Disease his surfing days are over. The Walk will be along the Virginia Beach Boardwalk with free food, drinks, bands and many surprises. Come honor one of our own, and support ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) research. JTWalk.org. Also this weekend, the ESA grinds toward the end off the season with comps in Georgia on Oct. 18 at 7am; while OBX ESA has set aside Oct 18-19 for their comp in Corolla, with a back-up date of the following weekend. They also announced this year’s banquet will be December 7. Word on SurfKDH.com is the Wave Riding Vehicles Outer Banks Pro "Battle of the Banks" is set for October 19-26, 2008 at Rodanthe, NC. The format will feature two 12-man teams. One team from Virginia Beach and one team from the Outer Banks competing against each other for the $5000 purse. The event also features a cash bonus from the crew at Hurley for longest/deepest barrel. And on Oct. 24, the Va. Beach Noblemen will present “ For Pete's Sake & the Soul of Surfing” at the Cavalier Beach & Cabana Club. Organizers are holding a surf memorabilia auction to benefit Pete in his sunset days. They are looking for surfing items and services to be donate. Just call Al Midgett at 757-426-7900 or email him. Pete turns 70 years old this year and it's time to return the favor. On Oct. 25-26, the will give it another shot. If you have already entered the contest for 10/4 and 10/5 your entry form and fees will be rolled over to the 10/25 and 10/26 contest. If you cannot attend the new contest dates then contact them by Tuesday Oct. 21 so that we can refund you your entry. And October 25-26 is also the weekend for Maryland’s Sea-Witch Surf-Fest at Ocean City, Inlet or 48th Street. Check the site for how to enter. Also in WB, Tony Butler is gearing up for the 4th Annual Hope From Helen Surf Silent Auction at the Blockade Runner Beach Resort in Wrightsville Beach. The date will be Friday December 5th and food will be courtesy of Tower 7 and live music by local surf legends Jerry Powell and Greg Eavey. They’re currently seeking both auction items and donations. The >East Coast Wahine Championships recently awarded four $500 savings bonds as scholarships, with three of the recipients from the Mid-Atlantic: Greta Hesmer, age 8, attends second grade at Eaton Elementary School in Wilmington, North Carolina; Rachel Callaghan, age 13, attends 8th grade at Roland-Grise Middle School in Wilmington; and Hilary Watters, age 17, attends 11th grade at Kellam High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
