Surfline's LOLA Swell Model is the ONLY global swell model that can separate individual swells to accurately calculate surf heights for any location on Earth. Every surf spot will only have a limited range of swells that produce good surf at that location. Compare the LOLA swell forecast with a spot's "Optimal Conditions" information and your own local knowledge to score the best surf.
The "Swell Rose" above is the only one of it's kind in the world. This shows the directions of all the incoming swells
(N=0° East=90° etc). If you mouse over the swell rose you can see detailed raw numbers of the underlying swells.
US Weather data comes from the WeatherUnderground array of personal weather stations. Data is near realtime. International weather comes from LOLAs high resolution models or WUG where possible.
Tides are generated using the most excellent Xtide system.

Some of New Hampshire's finest came together last week for a safe and fun day in the Hamptons honoring local veterans and their families. Link to SurfNews for photos and text.
Think there’s no ‘EC’ in “team”? Think again. At the end of the last week’s Surfing America USA Champs, seven Right Coast rippers made the Pac Sun squad, representing all three regions: Fisher Heverly, Balaram Stack, Evan Geiselman, Quincy Davis, Keenan Lineback, and Cam Richards – plus – freshly crowned under-14 girls champ, Nikki Viesins. (She’s not the only winner, either, as four more hometown heroes took their divisions: Cody Leutgens (Masters), Kate Easton (Girls Longboard); Kayla Beckman (Women’s Longboard); Dylan Andrews (Junior Longboard); Ty Roach (Men’s Longboard.) Congrats everyone. And for full coverage, click here.
Meanwhile, back home, the ESA NNE once again postponed last weekend’s York Beach, ME comp to this coming Saturday, Aug. 30. According to organizers, “We need to start thinking about surfing this fall and winter. That's right. You all have wetsuits and you all surf in cold water. Therefore, we will need to make up these contests before the New Year. Time to step up to the plate kids and surf like we mean it.”
And you’ve got less than one week submit to the fourth annual Proven in the Northeast film festival. Filmmakers of all abilities are invited to submit films of seven minutes or less that have elements of surfing, skateboarding and/or snowboarding in New England. There is no fee to enter. The top ten entries will be shown in November at a public screening in New England. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Northern New England Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation. Submissions on VHS, MiniDV or DVD should be sent by August 31, 2008, with entrant's name, mailing address, phone number and e-mail address to Proven In The Northeast, P.O. Box 5134, Portland, ME 04101. All filmmakers will receive notification that their film has been received. Check the site for more details.
On Sept. 1, Connecticut Surfrider will meet at the City Hall in New Haven (165 Church Street, Alderman's Meeting Room). Starts at 7pm.
And starting Sept. 3, Massachusetts Chapter General Meetings are now held on the first Wednesday of every month at the Wainwright Bank - Community Room, 250 Elm Street Somerville, MA, Davis Square. Meetings begin at 6:30 pm.
Maine’s Grain surfboards still has a few spots available in their September and October classes. Fall is a great time to be in New England, with less crowds, better waves and more color in the leaves. Call 207-457-5313 for details on how you can learn to build your own board.
And, finally, join lifelong surfer Ralph Williams as he documents a full hurricane season between Nova Scotia to Florida from now ‘til Dec. 1 – all while raising funds for injured service personnel. Click here to follow along and leave a message – or a donation.
