Hey, this is Schaler with the report for Wednesday afternoon at 1:30pm.

PM REGIONAL OVERVIEW: Sloppy, windblown little waves prevail this afternoon as our NW swell-mix drops out. Most better breaks have knee-waist-chest high surf, with a few plus sets for top exposures in the shoulder high+ zone. Onshore flow looks to be an issue for the remainder of the afternoon, keeping things on the sloppy, marginally rideable side.
This morning's dawn patrol: Not today.
Partly cloudy with SSW winds 8-12kts.
Our old mix of NW swells drops out through the day, with the most size showing first thing this morning. Better exposures through the region have waist-chest high surf, while top exposures are pulling in a few shoulder-head high sets at times. Conditions are looking pretty sloppy/jumbled this morning with steady Southerly winds, which look to be an issue for much of the day for the more openly exposed breaks.
THURSDAY: Mainly old, leftover NW swell through the first half of the day in the waist high range. New WNW swell picking up late in the day with head high+ waves.
Wind: S wind around 10kts in the morning, turning SSW 10-14kts in the afternoon.

Letter of the Week: A BIG thanks to 'Josh' for helping me out this weekend at Sloat in SF. On a big OH/DOH day, my leash snapped. I took a couple on the head and started to take on water. I was a little panicked and started looking for help. A bro by the name of Josh swam over to calm me down and help me back to the shore. I just want to send him a HUGE thanks and a big debt of gratitute. A little humbling to be put in such a position, however, I'm glad he was there to lend a helping hand. Surfrider’s water quality team tested Rockaway Beach, LindaMar North and South, the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve in Moss Beach, the El Granada Jetty, and Half Moon Bay State Beach at Kelly Street, on Friday morning and found the water quality all beaches except the Marine Reserve to be fine. San Vincente Creek in the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve in Moss Beach was found to have Enterococcus Bacteria levels which far exceed the EPA’s safe limit.
Big-wave surfing pioneer Jeff Clark broke his silence last week, saying "the reality is I was ousted" as director of the Mavericks Surf Contest and announcing that he has severed all ties with the company that runs it. Mavericks recently announced that the official waiting period for The 2009/2010 Mavericks Surf Contest will open on November 1st. Mavericks CEO Keir J. Beadling summed up the excitement, saying, “We’re thrilled to announce that this year’s big-wave contest season will begin earlier than ever before. We have long understood the importance of increasing the size of the contest window, but haven’t been able to do so." The announcement was especially meaningful to those who surf Mavericks. After watching the last contest season come and go without any contestable surf, competitors are more eager than ever for the 2009/2010 contest season to begin.
