SURF REPORT
Hey, this is Schaler with the report for Friday afternoon at 2pm.
SURF:
10-15 ft.
2-3 times overhead with occasional 20 ft.
and very poor conditions.

PM REGIONAL OVERVIEW: Solid, sloppy surf prevails this afternoon as some new NW swell moves in. Average breaks are in the shoulder-well-overhead range, with standout exposures pulling in some double-overhead+ sets at times. Most breaks through the region are not looking surfable at the moment.

This morning's dawn patrol: Solid, heavily textured/choppy peaks. Higher tide looks to be holding things back again this morning.

WEATHER:
SSW winds 15-25kts, passing rain showers.
SF-SAN MATEO COUNTY'S REGIONAL OVERVIEW:
NW/WNW(280-300)+ swell rebuilds further through the day. Better breaks through the region have surf in the shoulder high-overhead+ zone, as standout NW exposures are pulling in some sets in the well-overhead-double-overhead+ zone. Conditions are looking pretty jumbled/sloppy as the tide starts to fill in, and Southerly winds are on the rise.
FORECAST SUMMARY:
SATURDAY: WNW swell is holding early then coming down over the afternoon. Surf is still in the head-well overhead+ range with some double overhead+ sets at top exposed spots. Conditions cleaning up but some leftover surface bump/chop is likely.
Wind/Weather: Light N to NE early, turning NW to around 5-10kts over the afternoon.

Letter of the Week: A BIG thanks to 'Josh' for helping me out this weekend at Sloat in SF. On a big OH/DOH day, my leash snapped. I took a couple on the head and started to take on water. I was a little panicked and started looking for help. A bro by the name of Josh swam over to calm me down and help me back to the shore. I just want to send him a HUGE thanks and a big debt of gratitute. A little humbling to be put in such a position, however, I'm glad he was there to lend a helping hand. Thanks, Josh for bringing me back to the shore and pulling me out of the pit! Scott from SF

Big-wave surfing pioneer Jeff Clark broke his silence last week, saying "the reality is I was ousted" as director of the Mavericks Surf Contest and announcing that he has severed all ties with the company that runs it. Mavericks recently announced that the official waiting period for The 2009/2010 Mavericks Surf Contest will open on November 1st. Mavericks CEO Keir J. Beadling summed up the excitement, saying, “We’re thrilled to announce that this year’s big-wave contest season will begin earlier than ever before. We have long understood the importance of increasing the size of the contest window, but haven’t been able to do so." The announcement was especially meaningful to those who surf Mavericks. After watching the last contest season come and go without any contestable surf, competitors are more eager than ever for the 2009/2010 contest season to begin.
