LOCAL NEWS, PHOTOS AND VIDEO
LOCAL NEWS:
USA! USA! Just when you thought the title race was over, the ISA World Games come along to give you another chance to cheer, this time backing up East Coast homeboys CJ Hobgood and Ben Bourgeois. Both were on the team the last time America struck gold in 1996, so maybe we’ll git ‘er done this time in Portugal. Watch it live here.

Meanwhile, back home in NY, Main Beach Surf and Sport is conducting a super board and gear swap through Oct. 15. Just drop by any surf gear you want to sell between now and then at 352 Montauk Hwy. They are also moving the Main Beach kids shop back to the flagship store so everything is 50-70 percent off. All inventory must be sold by Oct 15.

Clean Ocean Action is getting ready for Oct. 18’s Beach Sweep, one of the longest running cleanups in the world. Groups of 10 or more are asked to pre-register by completing the form or by calling COA's Sandy Hook office at 732-872-0111

And the 2nd Annual Jetty Clam Jam will run Oct. 18 in LBI, NJ pitting two man teams against each other — one younger surfer and one veteran. Besides, adding a women’s bracket, the comp includes a striped bass tournament, clam shucking contest, sandcastle building competition, plenty of schwag, food and drink —plus an after party featuring five band and a slideshow of the day's events by Ann Coen. Check the link for full deets.

Unfortunately, both last week’s, Volcom VQS Jellyfish events set for NJ and NY also got cancelled due to lack of surf but they’ll try again this weekend: Lincoln Blvd, NY on Oct. 18 and Casino Pier, NJ on Oct. 19. For more info call (949)646-2175x.6302 or email Volcom.

ESA CNJ pushed last week’s contest in Seaside Heights to next Saturday, Oct. 19, while cancelled their comp entirely, saying “See you in two weekends.’

And the
NSSA Northeast Conference will hold their High School Championships on Oct. 19 at the Third Street Jetty in Ocean City, NJ.

On Oct. 22, NYC Surfrider will hold their annual Reef Madness Fundraiser, 7pm at Southpaw @ 125 5th Ave in Brooklyn. $20 gets you in to see entertainment by Doug Gillard of Guided by Voices,

Word on NYNJSurf.com is Long Beach High School Surf Club will hold their third annual Beach Clean up on Oct. 25 at National Blvd. Beach. (Rain date of the Oct. 26).

And on Oct. 26, Eastern Long Island Surfrider will hold their fall chapter meeting – and chapter elections -- at 5:00 p.m. at Aqua East Restaurant in Montauk

Congrats to Cara Salerno for winning on of four $500 East Coast Wahine Championships Scholarships. The 17-year-old attends 11th grade at North Brunswick Township High School in New Jersey. This was Cara’s first ECWC event and her first trip to North Carolina. She placed fourth in Girls Bodyboard.

The national election’s just three weeks away, but there’s another political fight that requires your action. With Congress lifting the ban on offshore drilling , now’s the time to contact your Senators and State Reps and tell them it’s time to explore for fresh energy solutions – not petroleum.

And, finally, there’s a new ESM on the streets. Besides the long-awaited South Carolina expose, big space goes to a Ray Hallgreen portfolio, plus coverage of the SEA Paddle in Manhattan, Red Bull Nightriders, Grom Grudge Match, Heritage Pro Junior and the Chip Miller event. Get it in your local shop now!
