LOCAL NEWS:
Thanksgiving’s over. Hurricane season’s done. But the winter surfing holiday’s just begun. Keep your eyes on Surfline for coverage from the past week and forecasts for more systems to come. And if that’s not enough of a feast, dig into the Vans Triple Crown and our Hawaii coverage where CJ Hobgood, Sterling Spencer and Ben Bourgeois are already getting into the spirit by handing out turkeys in Honolulu.

Back home, Main Beach Surf and Sport is sponsoring a surf photography contest on Dec. 6 from 4 to 6pm. Prizes will be awarded for biggest wave shot, best wipeout and best action shot. A presentation of all the finalists’ photography will take place at 4:30pm on their 52" big screen. Mulled cider, wine and cheese will be served as well. To enter, E-mail your shots with the subject line, "surf photo contest."

On Dec. 8, shoot on over to the Surfrider CLI meeting at Babylon Town Annex; starts at 7:30pm.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Long Island chapter is asking any anyone who’s recently received a ticket for surfing at the Lighthouse to contact them.

And Jersey Shore Surfrider filed a lawsuit a few weeks ago citing concerns that the sand the Army Corps wants to pump in from a site several miles off Sea Bright could be contaminated. More than 1,200 World War I-era military munitions were pumped ashore during the Surf City beach replenishment project two years ago. Click here for more.
Okay, we lied: the Dean Randazzo Freeze for a Cause event is officially Jan. 3 (not Dec. 27). Get your entry in and get more details here.

All the NJ/NY comps are done, but ESA SNJ is winning the race to post results – they just put up their year-end standings last week.

While you’re online, check the latest round of images by Joanne O'Shaughnessy and Jesse Pomeroy on LocalSwell.com.

The national election’s done, but another political fight is only beginning. With Congress lifting the ban on offshore drilling , now’s the time to contact your Senators and State Reps and tell them it’s time to explore for fresh energy solutions – not petroleum.

And, finally, what’s the best part of a surf trip? That giant excess baggage fee the airlines pork you with on both sides, right? Wrong! Well, stop bitching and do something by signing this petition.
