More Information | Rate Accuracy of This Model
Surfline's LOLA Swell Model is the ONLY global swell model that can separate individual swells to accurately calculate surf heights for any location on Earth. Every surf spot will only have a limited range of swells that produce good surf at that location. Compare the LOLA swell forecast with a spot's "Optimal Conditions" information and your own local knowledge to score the best surf.
The "Swell Rose" above is the only one of it's kind in the world. This shows the directions of all the incoming swells
(N=0° East=90° etc). If you mouse over the swell rose you can see detailed raw numbers of the underlying swells.
US Weather data comes from the WeatherUnderground array of personal weather stations. Data is near realtime. International weather comes from LOLAs high resolution models or WUG where possible.
Tides are generated using the most excellent Xtide system.

Everyone’s a winner. That’s what any surfer would say who happened to be in Hatteras for the ESA Easterns last weekend as Hurricane Kyle cranked out a mutha-load of large surf. But you might get an argument from the Mid-Atlantic’s Nick Rupp (Junior Men), Keenan Lineback (Junior Women), Shawn Clark (Masters), Rick Anson (Grandmasters), David Sledge (Legends), Ty Roach (Men’s Longboard), Bill Roach (Legends Longboard), Michael Bain (Menehune Bodyboard) and the rest of the competitors who took home a title. Click here for Surfline’s report and stay tuned for more hurricane coverage as well. (And, in the meantime, check SurfKDH.com for clips of the carnage.
You heard it here first: “After years of negotiations, a team of officials from four agencies, making up the Merger 01 Review Board, including DENR’s Chief Deputy Secretary Bill Laxton, has agreed to the short-bridge/phased approach option to replace the Bonner Bridge.“ But it ain’t over yet. There’s a whole month of public comment, so yell and scream hoo-ray to your NC legislators before Audobon and others can do the opposite.
We lied. Because of Easterns, the Hurley/Super Heat Surf series was postponed so they will now finish up on Sept. 30 at Pizzazz Pizza in Kitty Hawk. Pizza starts at 6:30. Contest starts at 7:00. The entry fee will be $10 for all the pizza you can eat and a chance at some sick prizes including gear from sponsors like Whalebone Surf Shop and Hurley.
On Oct. 1 Charleston Surfriderwill meet at the Holiday Inn in Folly Beach at 6:30 pm. While OCMD Surfrider will meet Oct. 4, at noon at Bull on the Beach, 94th Street, following a 10am beach clean-up at location TBA.
Ride for a Cause, a surfing event to raise money for the March of Dimes, will begin at 7:30 a.m. Saturday October 4th adjacent to the Little Island Pier in Sandbridge (rain date will be Oct 11th). Surfers may compete in six divisions: team surf, old school longboarding, switch stance longboarding, shortboard open, quad division, surf kayak. Prizes will be awarded for the top ranking competitors and for the surfer who brings in the largest charitable donation. All proceeds benefit the March of Dimes birth defects foundation. For details or to register call Brett Carey at (757) 409-4735 or click here.
The next big NC comp is this weekend’s set for Oct. 4-5 in Wrightsville Beach. Besides the contest, this event serves as a forum for addressing water quality, equitable beach access, and other issues affecting the coastal environment. The Festival aims to bring like-minded surfers and ocean/water enthusiasts together to promote surfing and raise awareness of these issues.
And the NC Big Sweep is coming to the Outer Banks, Oct. 4 from 9-12 with an after-party BBQ at the Outer Banks Brewing Station. Bag locations include: Chicahauk Beach Access; Kitty Hawk Bath House; KDH Bath House; Bonnet Street; Kitty Hawk Kayaks; Nags Head Town Center; Ramp 38; and New Inlet. Fill a bag with beach trash and party at the brew pub for free! Email with any questions or to volunteer.
And ESA Georgia will hold Tybee Surf contest #8 on Oct. 4 . Check the site for status.
On Oct. 5,
http://www.surfrider.org/delaware/Sept%20Oct%20Calendar.htm>Delaware Surfrider will participate in Coast Day; then, on Oct. 6, they’ll hold their monthly meeting at Dogfish Head at 7pm.
Surfrider Grand Strand will also meet on Oct. 6, 6:30pm – 8:00pm, at Balsa Bill's Surf and Coffee Shop to start final planning for the 9th Annual Lip-Rippin' Chilympics Chili Cook Off on Oct.
Oct. 7, it’s another Sullivan Island Beach Sweep in SC -- this time at Station 22.5
And DC Surfrider will meet on Oct. 8 at 7pm in the m...
