Aloha, this is Kekoa with the report for Saturday morning at 6:00 AM. Flatand good conditions.
Another summertime day for the north shorel this morning with mostly flat conditions and only micro trade swell.Light trades are blowing to provide nice ocean surface conditions...unfortunately there are no waves to be found.
Mostly sunny with isolated showers. Highs 80 to 86. East winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent. North shore is pretty much flat except for some tiny trace trade swell at very select locations.Probably a better day for other beach activities, so if you want to surf then head to other shores across the island.Buoy 1 is reading 4 ft @ 8 seconds...so not much swell out there at all.The highly anticipated north west swell might show some signs late today, but it would have to start hitting the buoy some time this morning. Light trade winds are blowing andwill provide nice side to offshore conditions through the weekend. Anything else on the horizon for northern shores? Check our extended forecast for all the details. SUNDAY: Solid new NNW groundswell rapidly fills in through the day, with overhead-double overhead+ waves and bigger sets; strongest late at standout reefs Wind: ENE Trades around 10-15kts.

A local North Shore surfer in his 20¹s was pulled from the water after nearly drowning at Gas Chambers, a powerful reef break between Pupukea and Rocky Point. It happened during the first sizeable swell of the season on 9/30.Between combo NNW and NE swells, the waves were crossed up and dumpy. He was said to have been in stable but critical condition at an area hospital.
A very cool article in The Honolulu Advertiser helps us catch up on the life of the venerable Mark Cunningham. He waxes on his ongoing love affair with bodysurfing and the Banzai Pipeline. At age 53, Mark describes how he's surrounded by younger, faster, stronger riders, but is working hard on his fitness level and still showing the whippersnappers a thing or two in the water.Link: here.
Surf shops specializing in Stand Up Paddle boards and accessories are popping up like weeds all over Oahu.Expect a record number of ³standers² to be invading North Shore lineups this season. Last year there were some heated confrontations and at least one reported punch up, and SUP¹s have seemingly allowed increasing numbers of surf novices access to already cramped wave zones.Eh, share waves and no drop in ah you guys!!!
The first rounds of the 2008 Billabong Junior Pro In Memory of Ronnie Burns ran in slightly overhead, but bumpy surf at Sunset Beach on 10/1. Hawaii's top junior surfers competed for the top seven overall placings to qualify for the super competitive World Junior Pro to be held in Australia in January 2009. Speaking of Sunset Beach, the holding period for the annual Xcel Pro starts on October 26th, and the final rounds of the Junior Pro will finish up at the same time.
